General Health Care - July 2007

I've had TMJ for years now and I'm fed up with it. I've had to compleletly change the way I eat because of it, no chewy foods, no hard foods etc. It gets so bad at times I can't even talk and the pain radiates down my neck and shoulders. What are the treatment plans and what kind of doctor do I go see about it. My dentist just told me to eat soft foods and rest my jaw. That does nothing, some times it hurts for a solid week, so what am I supposed to do live on oatmeal for a week?

it would drive me crazy. my brain felt like i was in a time warp and a thousand problems just kept going through my head. i would be dreaming but still awake and my parents would try and calm me down. id be talkin crazy stuff. id get up to try and walk it off and go to the toilet in case i have to throw up but id still be dreaming and panicking. all these problems rushed through my head. sometimes a thousand numbers would appear coming from all directions and i would panic. i remember one time my sister helped me fall back to sleep only to wake up realizing the same thing is happening still and i would then get upset. is there a name for this?

I write with my left hand, but i use my right hand for throwing, catching, all strength stuff. But i use my left foot for football, am i ambidextrous? or is there another word for it? (weird question i know but it really bothers me)

hello,
my dad has had severe pain in his right hand, and he has been to the doctor and a physio therapist, he says it has aggravated it even more after the physio. he finds it hard to move his hands, and its got something to do with the nerves. he says the pain comes in waves, its fine and then all of a sudden the shooting pain comes. he is 43 years old, an airline pilot. the pain is unbearable, he cant sleep at nights, it has also affected his neck, but its not that bad, something becuase the nerves are connected or something. please help, he is pain, please can u tell me what i can do, a diagnose possibly, some remedie or even a reply.

I've been chosen to go to spain with the school, but when i am in the sun, or verry hot temperatures all day, then i begin to get heat/sun stroke. i dont want it to spoil my holiday seeing as im going to be out all day, and into the night time aswell. is there any medication i could get to either avoid this, help this. if not what medication would be good to take when i suffer from it i.e paracetamol

Hello, ive been suffering from constipation and lower back pain for about 6 months.
I think they are related. I don't know what to do!
IT hurts really bad. I had just seen my doctor 2 months ago, she said to drink prune juice with every meal. I do that and it doesn't work, I told my doctor that a week ago and she said to continue drinking prune juice.
I don't get it. It really doesn't work.The only way i go is with a laxative.And it still doesn't work fully. I'm tring not to take laxatives because i don't want to be addicted. I go like once every 6 or 7 days with a laxitive.
Can someone help me? I'm only 17 years old, I don't want to deal with lower back pain with constipation anymore?

my shins really hurt like its not exactly on my shin kinda to the outside of them but its on both legs. my mom said its probably shin splints, could this be what it is? what are shin splints and what causes them? any way to make them less painful?! i'm really active, i run alot and play alot of basketball and soccer. what can i do to make them stop hurting so bad. it even hurts to walk! please help me, i'm 14 if that matters! so what causes them, what are they, and how to make them go away!?!!?

When I get up after laying down for a while, I stand up on my right knee and the joint doesn't support my weight, it just gives out and down I go. It has been doing this for a while, should I wrap it or what? I would appreciate some advice, thanks.

Ok well.. there is a small area on the tip of my penis that looks iritated and its red, if im not erect it does not bother me to much but at times is a little itchy and if i itch it if kinda burns, also i can not erect now after 2 days, because of the pain is not only in the tip but goes down inside my penis so the base it is a sharp pain and it kinda feels like its dry or something inside and it is an increadible ammount of pain making me shrink again. i havent been able to have sex or masturbate in 2 days now. i also noticed that it kinda hurt to pee and i had to go more often after the days pasted peeing doesnt hurt anymore but the sharp pain continues when i try to erect and the red area around the tip does not go away. help please?

Ok well last night i was hanging out with my friend and i all of a sudden was exhausted. I was like ok no big deal, go to sleep. Well this morning i woke up and felt the same...about 9 hours later... i stayed up the rest of the day and went to bed round 10 oclock and suddenly woke up. I have this pain in my calf that I noticed when I was lying on the couch. The pain is originating from something that I think is a cyst (I may be wrong, but it seems to be coming from a lump inside my leg that I can feel when I touch). Is this something I should be concerned about like a clot? There is no visible swelling, warmth or color abnormality.

I jsut noticed it a couple days ago. Just past my elbow in the direction of my shoulder is a spot of skin that is numb to the touch. But if I poke it or move my arm too quickly it aches. my lower back, the one closer to the butt area, has been hurting lately. i slept with a pillow underneath me. and the pain is like when i sneeze it hurts and when i sita nd stand up it hurts. its ok at night, but when i wake up it hurts. also, i have to constanstly sit staright or it'll hurt. what should i do? and i do have scolios, but thats at the spine and mine isn't really dangerous scoliosis bad, that i need something to support me.

i have lower back pain with scyatic nerve, pinch nerves, sharp shooting pains. When i sit, stand, walk for a long period of time my lower back starts burning with inflamation. Example:it's like when your arm, foot, leg goes to sleep and u can hit as hard as u want and u can' t feel a thing.

Other than medication what else can i do to where i notice it gradually going away?

p.s i have been to chiropractor, used cold packs, backbrace, medication = naproxen/aleve, physical therapy excersises, trueback, that's about all i can think of right now. thank you

I had the Microdiscectomy surgery, the nerve pain is still there. Its not as bad as it was before my surgery. I was wondering how long will I have the nerve pain.
