Take a couple ibuprofen ( Advil) and see a doctor as soon as possible. If the ibuprofen doesn't help you can try acetaminophen (Tylenol) too. Since they are different they can be taken together.
If you have been swimming recently it could be swimmers ears. Then you should use a hair drier on the warm setting on the affected ear.
Wish I could help you more, there is nothing worse then an ear ache. OUCH!

You may have a condition known as swimmers ear, very probably so since you mention the jaw area near the ear being sore. You can buy over-the-counter preparations, or as another person said use garlic. I use garlic and olive oil. Take a clove of garlic and slice it thin (you only need about half the clove). Cover this with olive oil. I put the mixture in a medicine bottle and use the eye-dropper therein to put drops onto a q-tip. I then insert the q-tip to coat the ear canal with the mixture. Two or three times per day will dry-up the condition in 2-3 days.
Swimmers ear is a bacterial infection caused by water getting into the ear canal or by cleaning of the ear leading to the skin therein being scratched. When the ears get wet, they should be dried out as soon as possible. It is good at such times to use a few drops of olive oil to dispell moisture and protect the skin of the ear canals.

Sounds like a possible infection in the jaw or glands in neck. If it is, it'll be worse before you get to a Doc. Don't wait around on this. If that side of your face starts to feel numb, tingly or swollen, get to the Doc pronto.

Could also be from grinding teeth at night or a condition they call TMJ. Hope its nothing at all but get it checked.

Usually the ears do not complain until there is something stuck in there or you have redness and infection. Does your teeth (molars) hurt too? Do you have a tooth problem.
Go to the doctor.
