General Health Care - September 2006

i am scared.I just had an appendix removal.But I am a large man,So it was considered major surgery.went back to dr. yesterday.He stuck big q-tip in between my 24 staples,and fluid gushed out,I had been swollen and very bloated.I know it looked like a half gallon of the stuff.the dr. said fat does not heal good.he said may have to remove staples readmit me to hosp. open surgical scar and let heal from inside out.he said wiould take long time to do so.he said is long way out of the woods for me.nonetheless it has been a life changing event for me.I have lost about 40lbs. so far.160 to go.does anyone have any safe ways I might be able to help this thing recover to avoid going back into the hospital and going thru more hell?i go back monday to be checked again,i just want to make it thru the weekend without any swelling.Please help me,i am so scared.I am afraid to die.i know is my fault for getting so big.i am paying for it now.

I have a real painful ache in the back of my ankle when I walk uphill - I think it's my achilles tendon. I almost have to stop walking but I don't. When I reach level ground again, eventually it goes, but if I have to stop for any reason, it's really painful and I have to hop from one foot to the other to give the other foot a few seconds worth of rest.

I've only noticed this since I started a new job about a month ago and have to walk uphil to get home - it hasn't bothered me til now but I was wondering;

a) will it go eventually?
b) am I doing myself any damage?
c) any advice on how to stop this?

any advice welcome!

My cousin's daughter aged 2 has, for the last 3 weeks, awaken with her left hand tightly clenched and her arm drawn up into her chest. This doesn't happen every single day, but at least once every two or three days. She also does this in the afternoon, mainly after waking up from a nap. It takes approximately 2 hours for her to open her clenched hand, and if you try to force it, she says that it hurts. Sometimes she will leave her ring finger touching her palm after opening her hand. They have taken her to the pediatrician and they haven't found any obvious nerve damage in that arm, and have now scheduled her for an MRI of her brain at the beginning of October. Does this sound neurological? What all could the problem be? Has anyone else experienced this or know someone who has?

I have the most painful calluses on my small toes. I have been to the Dr, and he lasers them, but my toes always start to hurt within a few days. Any suggestions to soften that skin would be greatly appreciated.

I live in Spain and have am really allergic to dust...I have been really really tired and because I play volleyball am limited to the kinds of medication I can take. Are the natural remedies effective? Also, I can get it cleared by the doctor if I need to but are injections the strongest remedies? My eyes are really sensitive and I eat and sleep well but wake up with an achy body and exhausted...any recommendations?

I was diagnosed with Acid Reflux when I was 15 (I'm now 20) and I've had trouble swallowing since about 15 too. The doctor told me that it was probably also due to the Acid Reflux so I was given medication and sent on my way.

That didn't help and I am now 20 and my swallowing and acid reflux is just as bad as ever, so bad that sometimes I actually choke on the food and can't breathe and have to force myself to cough it back it. It's nearly gotten to the point where I am even scared to try to eat therefore I eat small portions throughout the day with a drink near by to help it go down.

I have also stopped eating out in public because of this for the fear that something may happen and I'll end up making a scene in front of a bunch of strangers.

Does anyone know what I should do? I've been back to the doctor [two different doctors] and they both have said the same thing.

Any help?

This infection has been there since l had my first baby. I tried to conceive since then but was not possible until it was diagnosed to be a pelvic infection . lt was treated extensively with injections it has reoccured again. I got my eyes checked and they are fine. I am going to the dr next week, but this is driving me crazy.

I get headaches for around 3 - 5 days at a time. Not migranes, but dull throbbing headaches...they get severe, then let up for a little bit. They go away for a day or so, then it starts all over again.
