20 minutes? You'll just have to Go For It. Find a comfortable chair or couch that you can rest your entire body on, set your timer for 20 minutes and MAKE YOURSELF become as limp as a ragdoll. Close your eyes and dont think, except to imagine the scent and image of a rose, a beach to hear the waves. Choose your image before you lay down and use all your senses in your image. Thats it.
Ragdoll body, Imagination at work, reassurance of timer going off, precluding sleep.
It works for me. Good Luck.

Congrats! That's a very good decision and your body will thank you.
Personally, if I am working from home, I do one of two things:
1 a nice and gentle hatha yoga session: stretch and breathe. Really relaxes you
2 If I am too tired, I just take a little nap. I have trained myself to take 15, 30 60 minute naps.
If I am at the office, then I will take a novel I am reading and go have a coffee/ice cream alone. Talk to no one, and for that period of time travel into my novel.
If I am too tired to read, I just have ice cream and coffee :)

I curl up on the sofa with a good book to relax.
Another good one, and this might sound a bit girly but just having a lie down in a dark room maybe with candles and soft music could bring you right down.
Long soaks in the bath work miracles but i reckon you need more than 20 mins to get the full benefit.

Alternate things ... like one day have a nice soothing bath with lavender & chamomile oils, another day take a purposeless walk through a park or whatever other nice place is around, find a quiet corner or have a lie-down & give yourself a facial massage (close your eyes & gently, without pulling the skin, sweep your fingers across your face, press your temples & just above your eyes, pinch your eyebrows between thumb & forefinger, using your fingertips gently tap your skin) or get someone else to. Doing something you enjoy is usually relaxing so go with it ... everyone has their own unique ways of relaxing or meditating.

Find a quiet spot. Switch off all telephones and doorbells and make sure you cannot be disturbed.
Buy some relaxing music or learn to meditate. Lie back and concentrate on clearing your mind. Tense each part of your body - toes, feet, legs etc. and then relax them all.
Try not to think of anything serious.
And probably best to set an alarm clock incase you fall asleep!

Do some deep breathing in a quiet room. Also try meditation or yoga.
If you cant find a quiet room Bachs rescue remedy is good as is origins peace of mind.just rub a little of the latter onto your pulse points and prepare to drift and float away for 20 minutes!.x

Self -Hypnosis really works!
Like a form of meditation.
See if you can find out about it on the net, a magician taught me lol!
I used to get the benefits of a full nights sleep in just 45 minutes!
Can't do it for long but gets you through the times when you go to sleep and mind won't let you.

Get a relaxation tape that lasts 20 minutes. The more you practise these tapes, particularly ones where you visualise yourself somewhere that is realxing, the easier it is to switch yourself to a realxed state in everyday situations. If you do the same routine/tape everyday, then when you get to a stressful situation you can instantly visualise yourself in this serene place you have in your mind and you feel relaxed.

I recommend learning how to do some proper stretching. A good stretching regime is very relaxing. It stops muscle tension, improves posture and loosens you up.
