Infectious Diseases - December 2007

I heard from my teacher that the Bubonic Plague has next to NO written records of information of what people infected looked like when they died. However, it is said that the things that people EXPERIENCED when disposing of the bodies during the plague said that the bodies were hollow-ish. This is the same as Ebola (in a nutshell). Apparently, the "plague" started in a house of merchants who imported things from AFRICA (The continent where outbreaks during the 80s/90s) and soon people would come to see the sick family and the disease spread that way.
That's how I was told by my teacher anyway... Also, the Bubonic Plague was spread by rats, but places INFESTED with rats in the Middle Ages, some would not have any trace of the plague. With the given information that I have summarized for you from my teacher, does the Black Plague sound like it was just a previous outbreak of Ebola?

I'm curious to hear some responses.

A lot of people after having the flu jab develop cold like symptoms (not flu which is joint pain etc), if you come into contact with a sneezing, coughing person who has just had the flu jab can you catch their "cold like" virus ?....

he didnt say it was a bacterial or virus infection, he didnt do any tests throat swab or anything he just looked at my throat with his little torch lol how could he tell i require antibiotics, if it is a virus it should clear on its on and i shouldnt be taking antibiotics, however i was in extreme pain with my neck and throat so i guess it is bacterial... how long should the medicine take to work?

My mom had her hydrocephalus shunt five months ago, and after the shunt replacement, the doctor adjust the shunt clock devise from 2 to 1,so she had experince these symtoms later, which they are vomiting, shaking hands and legs, dizzyness, and fever. The only food that she can keep in her stomach is food from soy bean, like soy milk, soy oil, potato, bread, crackers these light foods. she was hospitalized and she experince from the MRI abdomen fluid, and the doctor don't know how did the abdomen fluid came from, I really need someone help that has heard, or someone has these similar symtoms, because I need to know more about these symtoms and how they are related to diagnosed them. thanks

How exactly does a rabies vaccine work? Let's say my cat got a rabies vaccine when he was young. Does that rabies vaccine protect him for the rest of his life, when updated with booster shots? If he has his rabies shot, but isn't quite up to date on his booster could he still be rabies carrier? If you know anything about this, please respond. Thanks! =)

Knowing your son was sick since Thurs. and having to be picked up from school because of a high fever, and then developed spots on their face, then bring him to a party with at least 25 people, elderly and children, only to find out from a Dr. who was there that this child had chicken pox???
My sister in law did this and now what the heck is going to happen? He came in contact with everyone!

One of my son's had it, at the age of 4, my other had the vacination, I had it when I was small, and so did hubby.
Can we still get it?

Knowing your child was sick and still sick with a fever, would you have still done this?

When my kids are sick, we hear hell from my inlaws if we bring them anywhere close to them. Oh, but it's ok for her kids to be around others.

i think i have impetigo.. a sort of clear fluid comes from up my nose and creates honey coloured scabs around my top lip. but i read that impetigo is spread from weeping blisters and is usualy caught from other people. so do i have a blister up my nose or somthing lol if so i cant feel it. also do i need to take anti-biotics or is there another way to rid my self of this.
