Common symptoms of strep throat in children and adults include:

Severe and sudden sore throat without coughing, sneezing, or other cold symptoms.
Pain or difficulty with swallowing.
Fever over 101 F; lower fevers may indicate a viral infection and not strep.
Swollen lymph nodes in the neck.
White or yellow spots or coating on the throat and tonsils.
Bright red throat or dark red spots on the roof of the mouth at the back near the throat.
Swollen tonsils, although this symptom may also be caused by a viral infection.

Does'nt sound like it. The common symptoms of strep throat include: 1. Severe and sudden sore throat without coughing, sneezing, or other cold symptoms. 2. Pain or difficulty with swallowing. 3. Fever over 101 F; (lower fevers may indicate a viral infection and not strep.) 4. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck. 5. White or yellow spots or coating on the throat and tonsils. 6. Bright red throat or dark red spots on the roof of the mouth at the back near the throat. 7. Swollen tonsils, although this symptom may also be caused by a viral infection. (In teenagers, mononucleosis can cause a severe sore throat that looks like and has symptoms similar to those of strep throat.) 8. It is easy to tell when you have a sore throat or a cold. It is harder to know when you have strep throat. Generally, sore throats are caused by a viral infection and not strep bacteria. Strep throat usually does not occur with cold symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, or a runny or stuffy nose. The more cold symptoms you have, the less likely it is that your sore throat is a strep infection. 9. In some cases of strep infection, a skin rash develops and spreads over the neck and chest and eventually over the whole body. The rash feels rough like sandpaper. This condition is called scarlet fever. Scarlet fever is treated with antibiotics, which usually lead to a quick recovery. Scarlet fever is not dangerous if treated.

It could be strep, or it could be tonsillitis. Any white puss pockets on the tonsils?

Either way, we don't do antibiotics or doctors for such - since my son is allergic to antibiotics, we had to find alternatives.

We use Grapefruit Seed Extract very successfully no matte the throat infection. You can find it at your health food store, or online at http://www.iherb.com (not affiliated). Use 10 drops in 6 oz of water. Gargle every 4-5 hours. You can swallow it, or not since it is just your throat. When you feel better, keep doing it for another 24 hours to make sure you have gotten all of the infection. GSE is very strong tasting, so chase it with some pineapple (soothing for sore throats) juice or grapefruit juice or other strongly flavored drink.

GSE is a natural antibiotic, antiviral, antiyeast extract. We use it for many things. Read more about it to find that it is something no medicine cabinet should be without. We love it here, and it was such a great find since my son suffered from frequent throat infections with no ability to take antibiotics before without serious reaction.

Make sure you get GRAPEFRUIT not Grape seed extract. It is a common mistake, and the grape seed extract won't do a thing for your throat.

Hope you feel better soon.

AFTER YOUR EDIT:

Tonsillitis doesn't usually come with a fever, but a viral sore throat from a cold does. GSE will still help with that. As will taking a teaspoon of vinegar in a glass of apple juice. Take Vit C three times a day (it is water soluble, so you need to take it more than once daily as excess will be excreted)

Watch the fever. If it goes about 101 then take some Tylenol or Ibuprofen to reduce it. Or you can take a lukewarm bath - not hot. Do not overdress. If the fever stays below 101, let it do its job. If the fever persists for more than 2 days, and you see no sign of improvement, find your nearest Naturopathic Doctor. They will help you take care of it with traditional health care that works instead of the nouveau "modern" medicine that throws drugs at symptoms.

Gargle with warm water and salt several times a day.Place warm clothes on your throat.Drink hot white tea,it has the most antioxidants.A spoon of honey will sooth your throat so you can try and drink as much fluid as you can. Boost or Ensure drinks will help replace the calories and nutrients you miss while you can't eat.Try and sleep as much as you can,not just rest but sleep! If all this fails, you may end up at the doctors for antibiotics.

You need to look at your throat with a flashlight. If you have white bumps on your glands or a white mucusy (sp?) substance on the inside of your throat then it is probably strep. I just got over strep. If your glands are swollen, you have a fever, and you have that horrible headache then you need to go to the doctor. Penicillin works wonders. Also, ask if they can give you prednisone for the pain. It helps for that sore throat!

I had something similar about a month ago. I had headaches, a fever, and general aches, and it felt like I was swallowing glass...not nice! It was so bad I couldn't go to cheer practice for a week and a bit. Not good, lol.

* Go to the doctors, they will probably prescribe you something like amoxicillin, like they did for me, or something similar.
* Drink lots of water. Hot water with honey and lemon can help fight the infection. As can clear chicken broth, but just sip it and make sure it's not too hot.
* The amoxicillin worked after about 2 doses, and you usually take one tablet three times a day, so it should start working the day you are prescribed it.

Hope you feel better soon!

If you cannot afford to see a doctor...listerine works. I always use it because it kills bacteria. Gargle and swallow a little. Drink hot tea with antioxidants. Take a motrin for your pain and have some soup then take a nap. Some people use salt and warm water.

Got to the doctor. If you do end up having strep throat you will need to take antibiotics to get rid of it. If you wait too long you may end up with tonsilitis or mononucleosis.

You need to go to the emergency room, this can lead to a heart attack if it is strep. dont panic though. it takes a little while.
