Knowing your son was sick since Thurs. and having to be picked up from school because of a high fever, and then developed spots on their face, then bring him to a party with at least 25 people, elderly and children, only to find out from a Dr. who was there that this child had chicken pox???
My sister in law did this and now what the heck is going to happen? He came in contact with everyone!

One of my son's had it, at the age of 4, my other had the vacination, I had it when I was small, and so did hubby.
Can we still get it?

Knowing your child was sick and still sick with a fever, would you have still done this?

When my kids are sick, we hear hell from my inlaws if we bring them anywhere close to them. Oh, but it's ok for her kids to be around others.

Your family should be protected but, there have been incidences (rare) when someone has gotten the chicken pox twice. It depends on how many spots they had the first time - the fewer spots, the less protection for a lifetime.

Taking kids who are ill to a family gathering is thoughtless and potentially, could put someone at risk (especially someone pregnant). It also spreads the disease and now will disrupt everyone's lives by quarantining every child who comes down with the chicken pox and that parent missing work to care for that child. 14 days is a long time missing work.

On the in-law thing, it seems that everyone has one family that gets the short end of the stick from them. One child can do no wrong and the other, everything they do is wrong. It is not fair, shows favoritism, causes ill will among family members but bringing this to their attention will get you nowhere - only more ill will towards you. Take the high road, avoid them as often as you can and maybe someday, they will ask why they don't see as much of you and your family and then you can tell them the truth.

Of course I would not have brought my child to a party or even out of the house if he had chicken pox! The people who've already had them will not get them again, however, those who have not will be very sick, very soon. If you had a vaccination you may be safe, but if it's been a long time since you were vaccinated, please call your doctor and see.

It's bad that others were exposed to the chicken pox, but even worse is that anyone would make a child go anywhere when they're so sick. Poor kid.

C.P. question- if you all had it, you should be good to go, but some people have had C.P. again when they're older even if they've had it while they were a kid-it's called shingles.
Would I have done this? No way.
Otherwise I totally agree with ya that the inlaws are a little bias. My sis-in-law had twin girls, her parents were glad and helped with everything since, they're 11 now. We had twin boys 5 years after she had her girls and the first thing out of my mother-in-laws mouth was "Oh great, we were looking forward for you to only have one, then she tells my wife she wasn't meant to be a grandparent. Screwed up." We haven't received much help since, so I totally agree on the bias...it's just plain mean.

No,but all viruses are a chance we take in this big world , staying home is just a preventative measure our society take to reduce the spread of chicken pox's and all the other viruses in the world and as far as the in-laws their a wolf in sheep's cloths.

well darlin you know what they say doncha--not everyone is a genius or else we'd all be geniuses wouldn't we?

Get over it and do what you have to for your kids. Chances are your sis in law has a long history of stupidity trailing her and much more to come what else can I say.
