Medical literature will say the Tetanus vaccine is good for ten years. I have seen numerous occasions where a booster was given if over two years from vaccination. It is wise to consult a physician on any deep puncture wound. Supposedly "clean" nails are not sterile. If you have records of your vaccination history you may be able to avoid a booster. But, the booster is completely safe. It will not harm you to get one just in case.

You need a tetanus shot at least every ten years
After getting poked by a nail would be a good time to get a booster.

Tell your doc if you are absolutely sure you had a tetanus shot in the past 10 years. You probably won't need another one.

But really, it's just a quick shot and then you don't have to worry about getting tetanus!

No. Tetanus thrives in soil, and it dies when it hits air. Unless that nail was buried deep in the ground and you suffered a deep wound that did not bleed and you were unable to clean thoroughly....you are pretty safe from tetanus.

If you have had a tetanus shot within the last two years, you should be fine in that sense. But the puncture wound must still be treated for infection and that may involve antibiotics.

Get your tetnus shot right away. Lockjaw is a lot worse than a shot. After that, you need to get one every 10 yrs, assuming you do not step on anything as horrific as an iron nail, again.

If it has been less than seven years since your last tetanus shot, no you don't need one. However, if it has been longer than seven years, you most certainly do need another tetanus shot. Lockjaw is a painful way to die.

Depends on how long ago your last booster shot was administered.
