Infectious Diseases - March 2007

I was walkin down the street today and i saw a pigeon eating some old food and i wondered how the pigeon does not get ill eating that but if a human ate it we would get food poisoning so obviosuly the pigeon had a better immune sytem than me. so i wonder can we not extract the genes that make a pigeon immune to most diseases and transfer them to a human to make us immune?

Chicken pox, me again?
hi, can i put oilatum in a bath to soothe or would that make it worse? the nursery have taken her today as they said as long as the spots arent weeping she is ok so does this mean that she isnt contagious anymore? i cant remember when i first saw the one spot she had on her head.....about4 days ago but not sure. then today just noticed the rest of them Hate this, hate not knowing what to do.

just found out thismornming my 3 year old has chicken pox, im 31 weeks preg and hospital is checking my bloods as we speak. but what is the best thing to do for daughter when the itching starts? How bad do they get normally? will she be up all night n things i have no idea?

It is common that children get sick. If you go to doctor he will say it is due to claimate change or infection here and there etc., My concerns in this regard is, is it due to non attention from the parents like food serving or composition, due to lack of knowledge.

I like my eggs slightly undercooked so that they are runny and ahve some translucent bit in it. My fiance says that unless I hard boil them, I run teh risk of catching H5N1!!!! Can that be?

After working in an underground tunnel for three weeks, having rotten food matter getting splashed into my mouth and on my skin I developed a fever and appendicitis. Workmen’s comp is trying to fight this saying its not applicable.

I went to the doc yesterday and she told me that I have a staph infection, that I caught from someone else, and that it will take years to go away. It cause red and sore lumps under my arms and on my thighs, does anyone know anything more about this? How it is caught? and how I can get rid of it quicker?

My husband has been taking 875 mg Augmentin 2x daily for 7 days and today he developed diarrhea. I know that he should continue taking the antibiotic (for strep throat) but should he cut back to once a day? I also read that acidophilus may help with the diarrehea. Is this true? He doesn't feel like it's the stomach flu, we are quessing it is from the antibiotic. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Its the color of a blood blister..that dark, raised, hard almost like a wart would feel but has a center to it. its high on his inner leg but not in groin area..no drainage to it, looks inflamed around it, and feels like a lump under it....never seen something like this before...Any ideas?

i was born with Meningitis and since then i have not had it again. i looked up the signs for Meningitis and i had a few of them. 1 of them i know is true because the signs came on very quickly....... earlier this month i had something similar to this and i went to the doctor and they gave me some medicine i i didnt take it because im allergic to it. my doctor said i have a bacteria infection or something like that. i read you can get it from it not been treated. so could i have Meningitis again?

I am a home day care provider and I have a toddler that started last month. My brother- in -law is friends with the toddlers father (his parents are divorced). He told me that the boys mother has hepatitis. What should I do? Should I ask the mother if she has hepatitis and if so how. Is it possible for the toddler to have it? Do I keep him in my daycare? Is there a vaccine my family can get to prevent us from getting it?

I know this is stupid, but I had Pre-eclampsia when I was pregnant, and that has to do with liver enxymes. Well, when I drink my chest hurts, and I have all the systems of this HCV. Is this common? Are they linked? I am really scared and dont know where to begin. My husband thinks I am over reacting but I have had all the symptoms for years and am being treated for them, so it is not like I just saw them and said yep that is me... I really am confused. When I was in the hospital the doctor gave me a hep shot, I dont know why exactly all I know is that I tested for low immunity to one... Please help, I have been stressing all day...

Mine always seem swollen. I have crappy insurance so I have bad docs and they always say" It's a respiratory infection" without even doing any tests. Then they prescribe antibiotics that dont even work. It's been over a year now, and I kinda give up on traditional medicine. children are ages 22 months and 4 months; both have very mild cases, on face only. doctor is not even positive it is chicken pox. i'm 36 yrs old and have never been exposed, to my knowledge. 22 month old had cpox vaccine at 13 mos.
