A good home remedy is just a little salt water. It won't get rid of it, but it might ease it up a little.

You have to identify why you have a sore throat. If it's just been a day or two, it shouldn't be a major deal. If you smoke, cut back a little. If you are prone to getting colds, just weather it out and treat the symptoms (Pain).

Cloroseptic works well by numbing the throat. It's a spray that you can buy over the counter.

Halls and other cough/sore throat drops will help soothe the pain temporarily.

Eating cold foods like ice cream may numb it up a little.

If it's bacterial or viral related, you will just have to let the sickness run it's course. If you're irritating it because of something you do (Smoking, screaming, singing, etc) you need to cut back on what you're doing momentarily.

If it persists or gets worse, see a doctor.

When my throat is sore I do this:

Gargle with hydrogen peroxide for about one minute (don't swallow any of this)
Gargle with listerine or other mouthwash to get rid of the foamy effect from the peroxide.
Gargle warm salt water.

Hot tea with honey.

I also take an OTC pain medicine to some of the pain.

Your doctor can order something called "Mary's Magic Mouthwash" which contains a bunch of stuff and is soothing to the throat, though it tastes YECK!

I have tried hot tea with sugar, lemon, and or honey. or if you are of legal drinking age. try a shot of hot damn. or a hot totty. also there is a throat spray in the pharmacy sold over the counter called ceprocol something like that. hope it helps. and an old wives tale is a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water.stir it until it dissolves totally. and gargle with it. good luck to you. hope you feel better soon.
