Best option for the itch is one of the older more sedative antihistamine syrups. Piriton is fine at 2.5 mls every 4-6 hours. Calamine lotion is often suggested to ease the itch, but I know of no controlled studies that confirm it works.

The disease is notifiable, so you need to let your GP know she has it. It is also so infectious that 90% of non-immune contacts will get it.

Hopefully your blood tests confirm you are already immune. Try and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and the best of luck.

Chicken pox can make your wee one feel ill, headache, temperature and a sore throat if she gets spots on her tongue and throat.

Worst is the itching though and whatever you do DON'T LET HER SCRATCH if chicken pox spots burst they leave a mark, so get her to try not to scratch, especially her face.

Use calomine lotion to soothe the itching, put on a lot frequently.

Give her things to do to keep her interest elsewhere and she will be fine.

She will be contageous until the spots develop scabs and this can take from 4 to 10 days.

My younger sister got chicken pox when my mum was pregnant and it didn't affect my mum or the baby so please don't worry about that you will both be fine.

My son as just gotten over chicken pox, he had them really bad & the itching is worse at night!! calamine lotion should help the itching, my son has dry skin so we had to use calamine cream instead (which actually worked better than the calamine lotion) & the pharmacist recommended we use an anti histamine to relieve the itching which worked well and helped him sleep!!
Hope I could help & wish your daughter a speedy recovery!!

When my children had chicken pox, They had a really bad case they were covered inside and out. My son had them in his eye and mouth throat and even up his willy. It was much the same for my little girl. I used calamine lotion and Eurax lotion as my daughter had a reaction to the calamine. I found using homeopathic remedies fantastic. They really helped and it stopped my son from being admitted in to hospital. here is some info for you. Good luck xx

The old method of reducing itching was to dab the spots with calamine lotion. What you must try to avoid is the child scratching as this can lead to the spots becoming infected with the possibility of scarring.

Well its not the greatest, and at that age it is hard for them not
to scratch of course, however your Dr. should be able to give something for the itching, It is best to keep her warm so that they will all come out and of course it is very contagious so keep others away if possible. Also make sure your doctor knows about her because of your pregnancy.
