My son has been treated for Aortic Stenosis when he was a baby, he also has a mitral valve in parachute. Is the operation dangerous? Is the survival rate high? What are his expectations of living a "normal" life? Is is his life expectancy normal (will he reach a common old age?)

Has anyone here ever been close or near death during surgery, a stroke, or open-heart? I do not mean a "near death experience," with its religious underpining, but your story about a medical situation so dire that you came very near to saying so-long, it's been good to know you!

As soon as I started the tread mill, my blood pressure went sky high, like 225/185, yea, talk about scared. Well, I was soo winded and could only do 4 minutes which was terrible. I am over weight and only 45 yrs. old. the dr. said that as soon as i started it shot up. I do have a history of heart, high blood pressure in my family. Any experiencing something like this, please let me know what it could be. Blocked arteries is my worry. Haven't heard from my dr. as of yet. Any answers will be appreciated.

I have some type of tachycardia that has been going on for 2 years now, my symptoms (shortness of breath, tachycardia with a 250+ HR, syncope, and chest pain) occur a couple times a day. I am 19, 5'4" and 120 pounds, have never had alcohol, nor drugs, nor have i smoked. I have had an EP study that was inconclusive, a 24 hour heart monitor, an even monitor for 30 days...the whole deal. I am scheduled for a second EP study and possible ablation in 2 weeks. Enough for history, now here is the question....

My cat has hypertropic caridomyopathy and I desparately want to do more than give him lasix and cardizem till he strokes and dies. People w/ this can get septal alcohol ablation with what appear to be good results. Are there any animal studies on this? Or is there any other possible cure for my little buddy? (And yes, this is what happens to you when you are 45 w/ no kids ). I know the question is weird but after researching the options I am curious as to whether this or a transplant are options for him.

He asked me to take him to the hospital this past Sunday. He is still there and it is Tues. eve. Since Sunday, his heart rate, which has ALWAYS been low (bradycardia) usually 50bpm, has been in the 30's. The doctor ordered EKG, blood and stress test - they came back negative. An echocardiogram was ordered, but our regular doctor's office keeps faxing the report to the wrong hospital, so we don't have the results yet. Today he had a carotid artery Doppler test as well as a chest MRI. We don't have results yet. He doesn't feel faint today, but he has a heaviness in his chest and since yesterday, he said it has morphed into feeling like a burning inside his chest. They gave him an injection for gastric relief- the nurse thought perhaps the burning is heartburn. He is in good shape, not overweight, does not smoke, drinks a little, works very hard.
What could it be? So far, they don't know. Can anyone hazard a guess as to what it is? Tomorrow they want to do a catheterization.

Aways one sees that 110 to 120 for systolic and 70 80 on the other. I'm interested in this as a function - maybe even Fourier analysis!

I'm known to have anxiety/panic symptoms, I'm a worry wart, and I take meds for asthma and other things. I also exercize.

But I'm otherwise healthy.

My blood pressure goes from 91/70, to 137/77 in the same week.

once i had a panic attack and it shot up to 140 ish. the bottom number, im assuminig diastolic has always been fine and never fluctuates much, which I'm assuming is good?

But the systolic fluctuates VERY much all the time. It's never stable.

But that's also because I'm never stable. sometimes I run sometimes I don't, sometimes I'm anxious and freaking out, other times I'm not.

Is it OKAY to have your blood pressure fluctuate at ALL? Or should I be concerned?
Can stress/anxiety/panic/worry affect blood pressure?

If so, is this all dangerous for an otherwise healthy/active male?

Thanks.

My grandfather is stubored and will not giveup driveing! He has high blood pressure, and his doctor wants him to stop driving. Of corse he won't and he thinks the doctor is crazy for saying that. Anyway, someone said that there is a key that will check his blood pressure, and it will not alow the car to crank if it is to high. Anyone heard of that? Or is anyone has a sugestion. If so please tell me before he or someone gets hurt or killed. We tried to take the keys away but he kind of gets mean and depressed!:)

My doctors office called me up today to give me the stats of my labs. She told me that my platelet levels were kind of low. They were at 84 and need to be around 120-130. The nurse told me this and asked her what this meant. She really didnt give me any info. She just said that platelets were my clotting factor. I went into the doctor in the first place because I was periods everyday for months on end. I don't understand anything. What causes platelet counts to be low and what are the risk factors that can happen and what can help me get them back up?
