My Dad is 55 years old and just this morning went to the hospital for fear of a heart attack. Right now hes been told that wasnt the case. He has been a heavy smoker all his life and and heavy drinker until recently. The Doctors think it has somrthing to do with his lungs. Now, if its lung cancer, would he expierence chest pains like he did? And if its cancer that did cause this does this mean its to late for him to get the help he needs? Please answer as soon as you can so I can make travel arranements if nessary. Thank you.

So I have a few questions regarding what goes on during and after having a pacemaker surgery:

1) How long does the surgery normally last?

2) After the surgery, what is the routine that the nurse and doctor will be doing to you?

3) How long after the surgery, can you be able to leave the hospital and go home?

4) Once at home, at are the discomforts we will be feeling? Any kind of soreness or pain?

5) If we do have any sort of discomfort, how long will it take for it to go away? In other ways when will the healing process be over?

6) After the healing process and everything is normal again, what are the activities we should avoid doing? Any objects to stay away from?

7) Will there be at requirement for daily check-ups? If yes, what are the intervals of each visit?

Thanks in advance!

Is it possible to see the pacemaker once it is inserted, through the skin? What about its wires? Or is it only possible to see either the pacemaker or wire, not both? What might be the reason for the cause of this situation?

If this is possible, then how do we resolve this problem? Do we need another surgery to make it so the device can not be seen? Or just wait it out?

I've heard that new studies show that eggs are the highest concentration of cholesterol because of their size but in the big scheme of things they are not high in cholesterol in a complete diet. Yes? No?

For the past week i have been having some discomfort and mild pain right in the middle of my chest or on the right side of my chest. The first type usually occurs when i am lying down or sitting. Like there is some pressure in the middle of my chest and i also feel my heart beating hard.

The second type on the right side of my chest but still close to the middle, is different. There is discomfort when i breathe, especially when i exhale. I don't experience both at the same time but both cause my heart to beat or palpitate harder than usual.

I'm guessing this has something to do with my heart since it makes my heart palpitate and i am also a heavy smoker, I smoke 2 or three packs a day and have one beer with dinner.

I am a 28 yr old male. I'm not in very good shape and Im overweight. I also have had high blood pressure for about 8 yrs., 145/80 on average. I recently went to a cardiologist for palpitations.
He did a 24 hr holter monitor and seen i had on average 1 PVC per minute (1300 somethin he said) in 24 hrs.
He said that i shouldnt worry about them as long as they dont occur in groups. He also did a echocardiogram and said my right atrium was just a little large, again; he said nothing to worry about. He then did a stress test. My pulse rate got as high as 158. He said he saw a few PVC's during that but not enough to worry. So anyways, he said I should just keep taking my atenolol 50mg bid and to not worry. He said to call him if I begin to get PVC's in groups of 3 or more or have any chest pain. What do you think of this opinion, should I relax and just listen to him?

I take 100 mg of labetalol for blood pressure twice a day. I ran out yesterday. I cannot afford to get it refilled until next week Friday (payday). What are some things I can do to make sure my bp doesn't get dangerously high in the meantime? I'm already having headaches.

from the avg of 120/80, my blood pressure was 120/100. I dont know why I have high bp, it doesnt run in the family, and i eat healthy. the only thing that was different was i had it checked the day after i came back from a 15 hour ride on the plane, therefore i got practically no sleep. also even before i was on the plane, i only slept about 3-6 hrs on avg, and i dont know why. however after i came back i slept for a good 12 hrs, and then i went to the doctors. i was also nervous and uncomfortable in the room. so is that why i have high bp, or just because i do?
p.s- i can feel my heart beating most of the time, it keeps me distracted and worried.

So for the past couple years this happens every so often but when it does it seems to happen all day long and then stop for a couple weeks. Ill just be doing normal activities (driving watching t.v. etc...) and i will take a breath and it is like my heart skips a beat and then it pounds real hard then is normal. when it happens my chest gets tight and i cant breathe but when it happens it happens within a second. anything to be worried about?

This week, I think I've been having palpitations (i.e. I feel like I hear my heart/I feel my heart like being pinched for a split-second/I "feel" my heart).

Is it palpitation? I'm scared... I'm just 18 years old, female, I've had an ECG before but it simply indicated sinus arrhythmia... I am quite healthy. I brisk walk 3 days every week and I walk a lot. I also eat healthy and do not smoke or drink.

Has anyone had this before? How do I know if it's serious? Please help. Thanks.

I was study all afternoon today (probably last time for this luxury ability, before I quit my adhd meds - under self-inflicted durress) to find why I am
toooo thirsty when my heart isn't beat right, because my physician and cardiologist both didn't know, but I don't stop there! My doc check my blood lab and is fine though. I learned my a-fib causes heart inability to
pump enough blood flow out of heart, then I am also have heart failure; this cause me being thirsty because of volumetric thirst, then heart and kidneys send signal to save fluids intracellular space to extravascular space. End result I am drink water too much like camel, and this cause water intoxication maybe; instead I need for this kind thirst, drink with electrolytes, like Gatorade / Powerade, these isotonic - but better for me to get hypotonic drink (less carbs). If I make them at home its cheaper, so what ingredients?
