A heart failure patient who is waiting for a transplant is often given an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) to assist their sick heart in pumping blood.

Imbedded Cardiac Defibrillators (ICDs) are also often used, generally associated with a bi-ventricular pacemaker, to help avoid sudden cardiac death (SCD).

They hook you up to as electrocardiogram (ECG / EKG) this monitors the heart beat, etc. ( http://www.ecglibrary.com/ecghome.html )
If you're referring to the "zapper" that attempts to defibrillate the heart during an arrest, that's called an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator), that's the thing with paddles that heath care pros use to shock the heart out of defrib.. You can also check out this page from the American Heart Association on that subject.. What to expect when waiting for a heart transplant - http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/106/14/1750

Well, I'll tell you my friend, after dying in the middle of a major heart attack, I didn't stop to ask the names of the machines the firemen were using, the nurse had paddles and the doctors, two, both were doing separate things down my mouth and using needles but, you don't really know what the heck is going on, after awaking and having the doctors tell you, you just died and, are you going to stay with us this time?
sorry.
