from the avg of 120/80, my blood pressure was 120/100. I dont know why I have high bp, it doesnt run in the family, and i eat healthy. the only thing that was different was i had it checked the day after i came back from a 15 hour ride on the plane, therefore i got practically no sleep. also even before i was on the plane, i only slept about 3-6 hrs on avg, and i dont know why. however after i came back i slept for a good 12 hrs, and then i went to the doctors. i was also nervous and uncomfortable in the room. so is that why i have high bp, or just because i do?
p.s- i can feel my heart beating most of the time, it keeps me distracted and worried.

Start having a BP card, go to a pharmacy and get that BP measured for at least a continuous week of a common routine for you. Take it to a GP or a cardiologist and they will tell you what to do next.

5 Steps You Can Follow

1. If you are a smoker, stop. Nicotine results in constriction of your arteries and increases your heart rate.
2. If you have to lose some pounds, do it; reducing blood pressure through diet and exercise normally reduces the need for medication.
3. If you love salty snack, cut it down. Salt does not cause high blood pressure in everyone, but lot of people experience trouble with it, so don’t take risk.
4. If you experience very stressful situation in your life, try to eliminate it, or learn stress management; biofeedback, meditation, and other relaxation techniques.
5. If you use alcohol to control stress, restrict its use. Though alcohol does not increase everybody’s blood pressure, but it may increase yours.

Do not think it is High blood pressure. High blood pressure is only diagnosed after several serial readings that are all high. Not just one. There are many things that cause high blood pressure, without it being serious. You may have been stressed, in pain, anxious, etc.

hypertension is still a rare occurence in otherwise healthy teenagers. I had high bp since I was 10 years old. But it is genetic, my mother had it, and she was relativly healthy, normal weight etc. Her numbers got higher then even mine.

Stop eating salt. No chips, no soda pop, and don't add salt to your food. See if that will help.
Most people your age with high blood pressure have started with kidney problems. Be nice to your kidneys, you need them very badly.

It's possibly the cause of taking in too many salted foods and soft drinks. Start drinking more water and eating less salt.
