I'm 18, 5'11", 142 pounds and I'm a runner. My resting heart rate is around 52-68 and my blood pressure is anywhere from 140/70 to 160/80. My doctor said not to worry since my diastolic(?) is normal. It's not a matter of diet, exercise, or weight. What's causing this? I had some tests done and I have a large left ventrical. Apparantly thats nothing to worry about either..
Also, I get tunnel vision when I stand up, almost to the point where I pass out..I thought that would be more of a low bp sort of problem. Any advice would be much appreciated!

My diabetic dad was recently diagnosed with an, and let me quote the DR, a HUGE enlarged heart, diverticulitis, and kidney stones. He's almost 62 and refuses to do anything about the enlarged heart. He passed the stone and I assume his diverticulitis problem has improved but I don't know about the heart because he's insisting the DR. said that he was fine now and released him and all of this was caused by dehydration...
I do know that he had been working outside in a drought and didn't drink much at the time of his diverticulitis attack. He also started to get the pain from the kidney stone at the same time. Which according to the DR was in the process of being passed. Thats when the DR discovered his hugely enlarged heart. He went back to the redimed dr not his regular dr who has been begging him for a chest xray forever but my dad refused. He told us that the redimed DR said he was fine now and it was all due to dehydration. Is this really possible or is he lying through his teeth?

For the past 2 days i have had really intense pain in my left side of my chest, it feels like it's my heart muscle but i do not know if it is my heart or if it is chest pain. It hurts quite badly if i take a deep breath in but even lying on my left side makes it more painful.
I have a heart murmur caused by a mitral valve prolapse, it has not bothered me so far apart from irregular heartbeat and slight palpitations in the last few weeks. I also have mild asthma and am 25 weeks pregnant. I have no way of getting to my GP in the next few days and just wondering if anyone has any ideas of what might be causing it? Should i worry?

Would somebody please take the time to explain the rash that occurs with severe leg edema? not the hemostatic edema spots, rather the large hive-like spots that occur with edema. They are almost like a sunburn in hive form. What are they called and how to treat them?
Thanks.

I've read everywhere that exercise can help lower your blood pressure because it will help you lose weight. I'm already skinny and won't lose anymore weight when exercising. Will it still help lower my blood pressure? In other words does exercise lower blood pressure ONLY because it lowers weight? Or are there other reasons/factors?

I have high blood pressure. In the beginning, my readings at home and at the doctor's office were always high. 140s over 90s for example. My doctor put me on Enalapril 10mg. After a few weeks, my recorderings at home were perfect. Under 120/80 consistently. However, every time I go to check up with my doctor my readings are high again!

Does my blood pressure monitor at home just suck or and the one at the office better and more accurate?

My readings at home were always high and now after medication they are low. And then high every time I go to my doctor. He probably thinks I'm lying to him when I say my readings are good at home.

What do you think?

hi - I've been on blood pressure meds for a while - it pretty much runs in the family - my blood pressure has been increasing over the last month - and I have been taking 20 mg enalapril in the morning and 50 mg of toprol in the evening - when it first started increasing they said I could go to 100 of toprol if needed, and then my bp was down for several days - and has been ok. this morning when I woke up though I knew it was very high - I took my enalapril waited 30 minutes and then took my bp - (I was scared to take it when it was so high) and then after a half hour it was down to 166/146 or so - but still quite high.

so I plan to go to 100 for sure tonight since they said I could. it seems like I"m fine when moving around but when I sleep it goes quite high.
I don't know why. it is baffling to me.

thanks
