I've just had a blood test done and my GP has told me that my cholesterol is 5.5 and that I appear to have elevated levels of triglycerides. I'd like some information on what this means, if anyone can help.
Thanks.
David.

My g/f very very occasionally says she will suddenly have a couple of seconds where her heart flutters and she has difficulty breathing. But then it goes away for weeks/months.

What could it be?

I presume it's normal as I'm pretty sure I get it too.

I have had high blood pressure for years, even with medication it would not go down. Over a year ago I joined Curves for Woman and since my blood pressure has been going down. Two days ago I went to the doctor for the results on the cholesterol test. My blood pressure is now 120 over 68. My doctor tells me I have to stay on medication for the rest of my life. Some time ago I was told by other doctors I could get off meds when it goes down I lose more weight. Who is right. I don't like being on prescriptions for life. I think prescription drugs are dangerous, and am afraid of what the end result will be.

I am suffering greatly from a failing heart after a MASSIVE heart attack. it happened only cause a car struck me and I went into cardiac shock with heavy blood loss. Prior to that - I managed not badly - even with blocked arteries & heart irregularities. Now even if I did bypass ( I have no insurance) it costs $150K & I was told that even that will never bring back the dead heart muscle from the attack. So why Bother????

I want to ask any and all devout Christians - like myself -who love & serve Our Lord Jesus as King & God -to pray for me whatever that you are able to - ask Jesus to be merciful on me and improve my heart function. I don't want to live forever - only I beg a reprieve from Jesus to ease my symptoms which torment me. the doctors consider me in critical shape since the attack. I can barely walk or climb stairs anymore without gasping. Yet I managed well prior to the accident. Please pray for me - Our Lord permits Himself to be persuaded by prayers.!!! Thanks

Is there anything you should do, or not do, to prepare for a blood test to check your cholesterol? I want to make sure my results are accurate. Thanks!

My sister says your total cholesterol should be your HDL + LDL. However, on my last blood test, my HDL + LDL was 10 points lower than my total cholesterol. So, I found some web sites that have the following formula:

HDL + LDL + (Triglyceride * 20%) = Total Cholesterol

The formula above does work to give me my total cholesterol given the other #'s (HDL, LDL, and Triglycerides) on my last blood test results. But, I want to know why my sister's always come back as:

HDL + LDL = Total Cholesterol

Some web sites say to calculate it one way and others say the other way. Anyone know why they would be different?

I have asked the yahoo community if there were ways to get rid of trans fat, however i have gotten contradicting responses. ONe person said that the only way you get rid of trans fit from your body is when the cells die and regenerate, and the trans fat is sent out of your body or caught again by another cell. Another said that it was HARD to get rid of them, and another person said that HDL can get rid of it? is trans fat the same as LDL cholestorol? HOw can you get trans fat molecules out of your system?

I've heard that breathing can be used to lower high blood pressure but I don't want to spend a lot of money on a gadget to try it. Does anyone know if you can learn it by yourself and how?
