The manual blood pressure monitor is the best. Thge typoe you put on the arem and someone listens to your pulse as they release the pressure on BP cuff.
Digital monitors are ok if you want a general reading only. The problem with any digital monitor arm, wrist, finger is they all detect movement and will give a false reading. Also if for some reason they do not detect a pulse they will reinflate and cause you to have a higher reading. I have been an RN for over 20 years and have done a significant amount of BP"s, yes I have used electronic BP;s but I use these as a guideline only, if the bp is abnormal then i always revert to the old standard, manual BP's. The other thing with digital monitors is they need to be calibrated over time and this can be costly.

For many years, the arm type blood pressure monitor was the one we used all the time. The problem was that they weren't convenient. We switched over to the newest wrist type meter this year and have had excellent results and patient response. No one has to worry about their upper arm size or rolling up their sleeves, etc. Everyone's wrist is easily accessible. We use the newest Omron model and it works great.

The wrist type of sphygmomanometer is the most portable and easiest to use (since you can do it on your own). But it is digital and it is not really accurate.

The arm type of sphygmomanometer is preferred by medical professionals since it is more accurate. Although with this, you'll need help from someone who is trained to measure blood pressure with this instrument. You can't definitely do it on your own.

There are two type of arm sphygmomanometers: 1)mercury and the 2)aneroid. Between the two the mercury is the more accurate but the the aneroid is more portable. Both are used in medical practice.
