My 4 yr. old daughter has normal fasting bg levels, but postprandial levels 1-2 hours after a meal often go as high as 280. She has had 5 readings over 200 in the past 4 days. Her bg numbers usually return to normal within 3-4 hours however. Is this indicative of diabetes?

Well, I eat very unhealthily. For lunch I have things like candy. I am a vegetarian, so I can't get protein and nutrients that I need. I can't see what I am doing to myself. What will happen to me overtime? Any suggestions in healthy, good tasting food?

My husband is a smaller built guy, in otherwords he is far from overweight. The thing is, he eats sugar constantly. I get worried about him, i hear that he used to live off of little debbies back in the military, now he eats a sugary cereal or pop tarts for breakfast, has at least 2 very sweet things for lunch, then gets home and eats cookies, and/or has icecream etc. HIs father was bigger and has diabetes now. He also seems to need sugar or he gets EXTREMELY moody. He gets really defensive if I bring it up, it's like his drug. ANY ADVICE or am I completely overreacting?

My son was dx with type I diabetes just over a year ago. He is 14 years old now. He was doing well for awhile, but lately it's been very difficult to get him to test his sugar, to take his pill, to watch his carbs, etc. He will overeat and not take any corrective insulin, so his numbers go pretty high sometimes. Obviously, the goal is to keep the blood sugar within a certain range. He has become stubborn about the whole thing, and I'm not sure if this has to do with his age or if it is the diabetes itself. I think he might still be in denial about the whole thing. He will take his insulin though and is able to inject it himself, so that's a really good thing. This diabetes has been tough for all of us in the family but I can't imagine how he must feel. I want to help him without being a nagging mother!

I wound up in an urgent care clinic, nearly blind with a blood sugar reading of 697 after taking Tequin for a skin infection. Without even one of the risk factors, I have since struggled with an extreme case of diabetes. Has anyone else developed diabetes while using tequin? If so, what are some of the specifics of your situation? A year later, I am on Metformin and Glucotrol but still struggling mightily in spite of being a health food and exercise fanatic. I weighed almost 170 before getting sick, dropped 30 pounds and can not get my weight back above 145. I am all muscle without any body fat at all. But even putting on more muscle has become an issue. I am hoping others in a similar predicament may help me understand what other problems I may be encountering. Thanks!

My daughter was diagnosed at the age of 4. And till this day i still have problems with her eating things that she shouldn't. Her target range is 80-150. But she's always high. I mean I get so frusturated because i try so hard to keep her under control. I have 2 other kids that i have to care for also. She draws most of the attention becuase of her condition. I love all my kids equal but it's hard when you try to explain to her that it's important to follow the meals and the carbs. She is growing but i am afraid of all the insulin i give her can affect her organs in the long run... !! What do you think I should do that I probably haven't already!
Thanks

I was diagnosed yesterday with hypoglycemia. I have several family members that are diabetic. I got tested yesterday because a couple of days ago I got real shaky and somewhat incoherent, I checked my blood and got a reading of 25 and 10 minutes later a reading of 24. I have the kit due to having too many episodes of feeling real bad. On the 5 hour tolerance test yesterday my sugar went up to 189 and I was spilling over in my urine 500mg. Then on the next blood draw and urine sample my glucose was 89 and I was spilling over in my urine over 1000mg. The next draw I went to 115 and in urine was showing trace of blood and still over 1000mg. Then my glucose dropped on next to last test to 62 with no spill in urine. Then to 71 with no spill. When I started spilling over in my urine over 1000mg the nurse told me that most people with that much spill are diabetic. Has anyone heard of this or has it happened to you? I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia. Any info much appreciated.

My son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 22 months old. I have tried to make his life seemingly normal, entering him into preschool and participating in playgroups, etc. Many friends of my son's and parents of those friends have many misconceptions about the disease and I am exhausted trying to explain it to everyone, one by one. I'm looking for some sources and ways people have explained Type 1 to their friends.

I have heard using the Prosit dietary supplement from Africa has helped many people with Diabetes in Europe and Africa. Being a very new product in the USA what do people in the USA think about using an "African Cure" for a problem in the Western World?

My boyfriend became a diabetic last April and since then we have been having a difficult time in the bedroom. We very much enjoy making love, but when he loses his erection it kinda kills the mood. It's to the point that is starting to make him depressed and he doesn't even want to make love anymore because he feels that he is inadequate. I don't know what to do to help him, short of talking to his doctor about it and it's not really my place to do that. However, he is too embarrased about the situation to bring it up to anyone himself, even to his doctor. I need advice...

I was diagnosed as a diabetic last week, I was prescribed a pill called Avandia, it's supposed to lower my blood sugar. I haven't got it filled yet, anyway, I have been taking my sugar for 1 week and its only been high twice, once 122, and 145 another, but it normally runs about 70-80 at night and 100-110 in the morning. My Dr. determined I was a diabetic by a A1C that I took an hour and a half after eating, and no other tests, it was 4.5, and my average, i guess that's what she said it was for the last three month was 143. From what I have been told you are supposed to fast before taking a A1C, is that true? I didn't know I was taking it that day either. Should I get another opinion? I don't want to take the medication if it is going to make my sugar too low.

I know that symptoms of kidney disease don't show up until there's already been a lot of damage. I'm trying to find out what symptoms correlate with what degree of kidney function?
Like, what symptoms would be present around 25%, and then around 15%, 10%, etc.
Thanx to anyone who can help!
