I am 42 and need to start having breast exams, however, at 23 I had a breast augmentation which started leaking that same year and has made me sick over the years, therefore I cannot have a mammogram because it could be dangerous to cause more silicone leakage into my body...does anyone know of any alternative measures which won't cause any more damage, that I can do for breast cancer screening???

My dad has been battling melanoma for about 2 years now. Everything was in remission. We thought it was all ok. About 2 months ago, he started having major pains in his abdomen. We found out yesterday his cancer is back and has spread everywhere. They are telling me it is in his pancreas, so it's like he has pancreatic cancer. They are calling in hospice now. He is going to come and stay with me because I will not let him go into a hospice home. I have an 8 year old and a 2 month old baby. They are telling me he has anywhere from 1 week to 5 months to live. My question is how bad physically is he going to get. Right now, he can walk around and eat (although he doesn't eat because it hurts him too bad). So is he going to end up just lying in a bed all the time not being able to move? Is he going to be throwing up alot? Bowel movements in the bed? Become unaware of what is going on around him?

and she has given up on chemo. The cancer has spread to her lymph nodes and she is now just on oxygen and pain killers. We don't know how much time she has left. My boyfriend (of almost a year) has been a little depressed on and off. He gets grumpy and angry for no reason that he knows. He is normally a very laid back, calm person. Its just unlike him. What can I do to support him and help him through this?

I had a misstep when i was 12 years old. A small round bump appeared under my left ankle as a result. Now i noticed that it has become bigger. A mass of muscle enveloped the bump ( i think it's the mass which grew bigger). I had the lump checked and the doctors said that there is nothing to be afraid of. I don't feel any pain at all but im just worried that it might be cancerous. My tita died of cancer last year because she dismissed a lump under her armpit in the past 25 years.

Is there anybody out there who has ovarian cancer or knows someone who's had it? I am really worried that I may have it and am waiting for an ultrasound. I've done lots of reading about it, but it's mostly textbook type stuff. I'm not looking for a list of symptoms really, but am wondering if anybody can tell me their own story about how they were diagnosed etc. I have been having a lot of severe pelvic pain along with bleeding and I know that I have what might be cysts in my ovaries, but I'm scared that they might be cancerous. Please somebody, if you can share with me I would be most grateful, thank you!!

My stepdad is going through a really hard time. His son has been battling cancer for the past couple years. He can only eat liquid food through feeding tubes and has recently had most of his tongue surgically removed. Yesterday we just learned that the cancer has spread to his liver and lungs and will not be curable. The doctors are saying he has just one year to live. This is devastating news for us all.
How now can I help my stepdad through this? Is there anything I can do? How can I show him my support ?

My father passed away on Sept. 21, 2007 from pancreatic cancer. He was diagnosed with stage 4 on Aug. 8th. He lived only 6 weeks. I continue to look at his obituary and it is unbelievable to me that he is gone forever. It all happened so fast. I keep expecting him to walk through the door any minute. How long does it take for the realization that he is gone forever to set in? Or will it always be like a shock to me? I am missing him so much.

If someone has cancer, will doctors be able to detect this based on blood tests? For instance, if one has early stages of lung cancer, would a routine blood test that includes red and white blood counts indicate this?

Tobacco deaths are more than all combined deaths, it is directly responsible for various forms of cancers, causes impotency, etc., etc. Still, cultivation of tobacco continues unabated, government itself prescribes annual growth rate of tobacco, cultivators even get support price from governments. It's use in public places is banned but people smoke with impunity. 6th standard kids are becoming victims and MNCs/NGOs/tobacco manufacturers are not sincere in their Corporate Social Responsibilities.
It is a shame on the part of "two-timing" policy makers who are victims of tobacco lobbies. They make helmets compulsory but are not bothered about the all pervading killer tobacco.
Drinking water is not available in villages/remote areas but availability of tobacco products are ENSURED in all corners of the world.
When will we ever learn? Once U R hooked, U R hooked for life. U spend money to buy cancer and again spend money to get the cancer cured. Either way U R the looser.
