Leukemia in an adult is diagnosed the same way as in a child--blood work, some times a bone marrow aspiration. I think you are getting confused with the differences in types of leukemia in adults and children. Kids usually have the acute forms of the disease which means it comes on suddenly and can progress quite quickly without treatment. In adults, it is usually slower in onset and progresses more slowly. NOT always but usually. I am wondering why you think you may have leukemia though. It isn't a common illness and there are dozens of things that have all the symptoms of leukemia but aren't. Chances are excellent that you do not have it; just try to be calm, have the blood work done and go from there.

The doctor you are under will order up tests on your blood targeted at certain abnormalities which will determine whether a tentative diagnosis of ?? leukemia is correct or not.

If, in the unfortunate event the tests are positive for leukemia, your doctor will give you a complete and detailed explanation of your treatment options, and your prognosis.

Good luck. Try to stay positive.
