From a health investigation point of view, an employee is under question over the amount of time they are taking off from work.
There has been no operations but the finger in question has just been strapped up.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated

NO employee has to tell you about his/her health or any tests/investigations they may or may not be having done for any number of different symptoms/diseases/illnesses.
Just because they have told you it is a broken finger doesn't mean that it is.
No good doctor would sign a patient sick from work without good reason.
Therefore, why do you feel it necessary to 'investigate' this particular employee? Time off with a valid sick note cannot and should not be questioned.
Swinging the lead, however, is a different matter. A day here, a day there. Maybe there is something to suspect.
Tread gently. There may be a genuine good reason for it.
Approachable employers have nothing to fear.

No. Strapping the fingers together is normal

CT scans are used for 3 D imaging of bits of the body that are large, not afinger.

An x-ray is enough to diagnose the fracture. No need for the CT scan.

No that is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ct scans are used to for serious illness such as cancer to see tumor growth thru the body. If he only has a fractured finger tell him to get over it, there a worse things to worry about.

A simple x-ray is the only diagnostic tool for a fractured bone. I would seriously question this guy's ethics, and absolutely demand a physician's letter excusing him from working. No letter, no job.

You can't decide on a medical test to check up on your employee. You can however request, with his consent, a medical report on his condition from his GP.
