I'm just starting the Phase I of the South Beach diet, and I know that I do much better on a restricted diet when I have built-in treats to look forward to.
So first question, I know you are supposed to limit sugar-free treats to 75-100 cal/day due to the sugar alcohols, but I a lot of what I have read specify that especially in Phase I the only sugar-free candy allowed is hard candy. Are sugar-free Hersheys and York peppermint patties okay as long as I adhere to the calorie restrictions?
Second question, any other SIMPLE recipe suggestions? A lot of the ones I've found are so complex. And expensive! The idea of salad for lunch AND dinner is not the most appealing. And I'm not a huge fan of cooked veggies. Of course, the ones I do like are peas and corn...which aren't allowed.
Finally, any other helpful hints? I'm trying to lose about 20 lbs, and am skeptically trying this out as somewhat of a last resort, as low-fat doesn't seem to be working.
Thanks!
