I am a lacto-ovo-vegetarian. I am on the faultline of dceiciding whether or not it is right to eat eggs. I look at it like I am just eating a product of the chicken that comes out anyways and is just not fertilized, like dairy. I don't want to bring harm to anything if I can help it, but I ahve to draw the line. I realize that I kill coli-rectal bacteria when I defecate, and even airborne bacteria when I breath. Is this on the same page as eating eggs. My beleif is as higher beings we do not have to murder for survival. We can grow organic crops ( non-monoculture) and live with animals such as Cows, chickens, goats, sheep( for wool) and horses and camels to help our lives. But is it O.K. to eat chicken eggs. I don't adhere to the strict vegan dogma because domesticated cattle and sheep won't make it in the wild anymore. Wool is a good. Leather is ( in my opinion) uneccesarry and cotton is the $h*t. Anyways ...Opinions.

And all animal products too, then i realises that plants are alive too, and some studies have shown that plants can "feel" fear, pain and joy! Now I have to stop eating plants too. When I have my surgery to install a feeding tube, what nutritional supplements are completely animal and plant free?

okay so i dont eat any red meat, and i used to not eat chicken either but then i decided to start eating chicken again. so ive been only eating chicken and fish for a while. and now i want to stop eating chicken again because i just cant stand how animals are killed for their meat, and it grosses me out to be eating something that was alive. i wouldnt eat ALL animals if i could, but i just CANT give up fish! i dont eat farmed fish but still...im eating an animal. what do you advise? should i just keep eating fish?

Hi guys,

I've been vegetarian for 10 years now (I switched at 14) and as of last week went vegan. I am trying to lose some weight so I've made sure to do a couple of things:

a.) cut out *all* prepackaged food/snacks--it's all about baby carrots and fruit in that regard.
b.) eat about 50% raw food.
c.) Drink only soy milk, rice milk and green tea (1 cup coffee with soy creamer in the morning)
d.) exercise about an hour a day, with three meals a day at small portions.

Physically I feel great and my clothes are more loose, however, this isn't reflecting on the scale. My scales seem to suggest I've lost only 3 pounds.

Eating a majority raw food diet shouldn't I have lost a bit more? Or does it take a week or two for a person's body to really get with it?

Also (sorry guys) I am just finishing up with menstruation, is it water weight?

Cheers! :)

I often make fruit smoothies, and it's much more convenient to use frozen fruit because it lasts much longer, and tastes better in a smoothie (gives it more of an icy texture). So I usually buy bags of frozen fruit (a brand called Europe's Best, it's about $5 for a 1lb, 5 oz bag and it's very good) and mix those fruits (usually strawberries, pineapple or blueberries) in along with a frozen banana, ice cubes, ground flax seed and orange juice.

I enjoy the smoothies but mostly drink them for the health benefits...so I'm wondering if using frozen fruit over fresh fruit has any effect on the fruits' nutritional values, or if there are any negatives? Same with vegetables, because I sometimes eat frozen veggies (though they don't taste as good).

Ok you have been warned...

OK how much meat does the average ani... cra... er no.

Ok my flatmate bought home 2 live crabs, for like 1 dollar, the other day to cook them (please dare in mind, I'm living in China, my flatmate is out of work and is living on something like 1-2 dollars a day, being vegan is fine, but in china veg*n stuff costs money)

She was p*ssing about on how to kill them and I told her to do it quickly as it was not fair on them, she is likely to buy more crabs in future. In the end she threw them into the boiling water.

What is the most humane way to kill these kill these things. I read somewhere that if you slowly heat water to boiling or stream them that you will not feel any pain but will pass out peacefully long before death happens.

So what are the choices.

a) Drop them straight into boiling water.
b) Slowly raise the water to boiling with them in it.
c) Knife through the vital areas.

I tend to eat a lot of Japanese squash, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, butternut squash, etc, thus taking in an excess amount of Vitamin A, sometimes up to eight times the recommended daily amount. I am a vegetarian, an aspiring vegan, and do not take supplements of any kind (so all the Vitamin A comes from natural food sources only), and eat plenty of other fruits and vegetables in addition to beans, legumes, grains, and fortified soy products. I'm just wondering if it's harmful in any way to consume too much Vitamin A from FOOD SOURCES only, and if so, how bad is it and what could be possible effects? Thank you!

ive been a vegitarian for about a year now and im perfectly happy not eating meat i think it tastes gross and its wrong to kill plus its healthier this way.ive had alot more energy too but ppl i know insult me for that they say im stupid for not eating meat and they think vegitarians are ppl who look down on meat-eaters but everyone in my family eats meat except me and i love them.its because they respect the fact i have different beleifs about that sorta thing.i thought it was wrong to kill so what makes animals an exception to that rule.just because they have meat doesnt mean we can eat it right i mean they have souls right?they desrve to live right?we dont need it to live im still alive right?so how come pplz eat it and why do ppl make fun of me for being veg?

To all you people who have asked this question, it is old. It wasn't even funny the first time. Can i just say 'have some originality, people'? Take lessons from Tom Foolery. at least he/she is somewhat creative.

I'm 14 and have decided i want to become a lacto ova vegetarian, because i want to do my part against animal cruelty, but i don't know how to tell my parents because i don't think they'll accept it (especially seeing my dad is a manager of kfc)
Has anyone done this before? How did you tell them?
Also, is it ok to eat fish, or is that not vegetarian?

Doesn't that seem a little off? Are humans really so barbaric that they can't grasp someone's decision to not want to be the cause of death for some poor animal if it's not absolutely necessary? Is it just so ingrained in our nature to kill and eat that those of us who don't kill are freaks of nature?
