I am not sure why people make fun of you. That is silly. But people eat meat for many reasons. First, they like it. That is a powerful motivation. Second, many people disagree with you that animals have souls. So that issue does not matter to them. In fact, there are many people who don't believe in souls at all, so this spiritual point of view is no motivation for them to stop. Many who do will simply quote the Bible as giving us command over the animals, justifying eating them. Third, like it or not, death is natural. Killing is natural. Why is it wrong for us to kill a cow, but not for a wolf? Why is something that comes naturally wrong? Fourth, man is naturally a omnivore, meaning he historically needs meat in his diet for protein. Now this simply is not true due to the development of soy and other non-meat proteins, but someone could argue that what was ok for our ancestors should still be ok for us today. Again, it comes down to what they believe is natural. Fifth, meat-eating has been around for thousands of years. Today it is such an established part of our economy and way of life that it is virtually impossible to shut it down. What happens to all the cows and pigs that are kept by farmers intending to kill them for our food? There are too many of them to just let go, they would destroy the countryside, and most would slowly die without enough food. What is more cruel: quickly killing and eating animals or letting them slowly starve to death in the woods? The farmers could never afford to keep them without being able to sell their meat. What do they do? I think vegetarians and vegans have some really good arguments to contend with the first four reasons I give, but not this one. The truth is that to stop eating the animals that have been bred would likely be an economic and ecological disaster.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying what is right and what is wrong. But these are some of the reasons you are up against, and for the people that feel this way, they are powerful arguments. That doesn't give them a right to make fun of you, which is wrong, but if they feel you are judging them for their beliefs, it is natural that they would react unkindly. Hope this helps.

Just as you have the right to be a vegetarian, the other people in your life have a right to be meat eaters.
I'm glad that you are a vegetarian and I am one too.
Please do not try to convince people about your values and beliefs because it just won't work. Accept the meat eaters as they are and hopefully they will accept you too. It's the concept of "live and let live".
Having said that, my friends also made fun of me for being vegetarian even though I did not try to force my values on them. They also kept asking why I am vegetarian and whenever I would answer that I want the animals to live, they would answer that eating the animals is good for the animal - that this elevates the animal's soul. Well, I just couldn't buy that and I kept my viewpoint. This would happen over and over again - my friends asking me why and my answer. Now they accept me as a vegetarian and try to accommodate my food needs when I visit them.
So my advice also to you is be patient - it takes time for people to get use to someone who is doing something different from them and of course, don't antagonize them further by telling them your way is better.

I've been on and off (more so off) but still on and off a vegetarian diet since my jr year in highschool. I can go either way. I've seen vegetarians and or vegans look down on meat eaters and meat eaters look down on vegetarians! Neither side wants to understand the other. It is sad really. My reason for advoiding meat {at the times when I have been vegetarian} have not been animal crulity but health reasons. Bear in mind that eating vegetarian isn't necessarly always the healthiest. I mean its possible that a vegetarian would cossume a lot of cafine. So which is worse eating the dead animal or drinking coffie? My hats off to you eating a vegetarian diet. When I first became vegetarian no one else in my family was. Now my dad hasn't eaten meat for about 7 years. My mom and my sister and grandmother eat meat far less that when I was a child.
No way are you stupid for your decision but as I said there are other aspects of a healthy life.

Like you said, i think some people are like that because they think that you look down on them for eating meat, which isn't the case obviously. Also, as a vegetarian you might make some people feel guilty about eating meat and so they choose to make fun of you for it because by telling you how bad it is, they can convince themselves that eating meat is right. You are doing the right thing:) being vegeterian is great.

Im sorry, your question is rambling and incoherent. For one ingredient you talk evolution, atheism as against ..i assume Christianity, and vegetarianism. From a technology attitude, being vegan is the main awesome ingredient using fact it the _only hope_ for our surroundings. We progressed to eat meat using fact we migrated to aspects of the international the place food replaced into no longer attainable in the time of wintry climate. Now that we've progressed the skill to furnish food all year long, this is now no longer an argument. this is to no longer point out the morality difficulty. however I do discover it exciting that a similar team of individuals who profess to be the main ethical are the main possibly to diminish fee humane scientific care of animals...I digress.. Deer Hunter, I often despise your comments, yet to that end I couldnt agree greater.

most people are gonna say that ur stupid for not eating meat because its not good for u but there are other ways to get protein. and if being a vegeterian makes u happy then by god be a vegeterian. and some people eat meat because they believe that god put some animals on earth for us to eat and others just like the taste. eating meat is basically based off of people's belief.

I love being vegetarian!
I'm the only member of my family that doesn't eat meat, but my friends are really supportive, and they even went vegetarian with me.
Congrats on being vegetarian for a year now! :D

If you're firm in your beliefs it really doesn't matter what other people say. You take it with a grain of salt, and don't deal with people who can't respect you. If I preached to someone all the time, I imagine they would cut ties with me too, and rightfully so. I do the same when I'm not respected.

Some people are just unsupportive, my family is nice about, they don't think it's stupid at all. In fact, some of them even said they wish they could become vegetarians.
