This morning, I took a bite of an apple I got at the store the other day. It tasted just fine, like a crisp fresh apple. I looked at it and saw it was brown on the inside, after one half to one inch from the surface. I cut it into four pieces, and the whole inner part is the same. It's not like it is bruised from any side. I won't taste any more of it, but it seems like the the brown part is not mushy...
It just seems really weird, so I am curious.

I would like to help my parents (in their mid-late 60's) improve their health. My mom has high blood pressure and high cholesteral and has had mini-strokes. They run their own business and eat very few meals at home. The insulated lunch bag and the microwave are their greatest allies. Any suggestions on things I can prepare in advance and freeze that they can simply heat and eat? They are very midwest in their current eating habits- meat and potatoes, salt and pepper, etc. Thanks!

P.S. I am familiar with the ideas of fresh veggies and fruit, pre-cut and ready to eat. I know the basics of healthy eating but am looking for more ideas and suggestions.

It's not Ganong. Laura Secord is nice for basic stuff, but not all that "fine." It's certainly not Godiva. Any suggestions?

In Swedish they are called "Dumlekakor".
Dough: Sugar,margarine, flour, baking powder
Shaped into small balls to dress small foil cups
Dumle (registred trade mark) ChocolateToffees are cut into halves and placed into each foil cup,
Baked at 175 degrees C in the middle of the oven for 15 minutes

Some food items have "use by" dates, others have "sell by" dates. If an item has a "sell by" date, how many days after that date is it still good?

Normally I use the item w/in a day or 2 of the sell by date, but I currently have beef shoulder rib steak carne asada that has been in the fridge & has a "sell by" date of Sunday (today is Thurs), is it still ok to use?
Also, what is your source of info ... how do you know your answer/info is correct?

I mainly need to know about the beef right now, but how about safe dates after "sell by" date for dairy products, lunch meats, leftovers?

To reheat prawns. I made fish pie last night (home made) with salmon and prawns. There is half left over, is it safe to eat, heated through again in the oven? I have a feeling you should not reheat prawns, don`t know where i get the idea. Is it safe to do this?

I couldn't add an answer to the already closed question, so I re-opened the question again. It seems that people think it is safe to eat the potato skins.... Not necessarily so.

Can you eat potato skins?

It is a known fact that potato skins do contain many nutrients absorbed from the soil. However, the potato skin also absorbs pesticides as well.

Additionally if the coloring of the skin is green, it is a mild toxin.

There are some links for further reading.

Hence, Enjoy Potato skins if the are organically grown without pesticides and if they are not green.

This regards cruelty to animals used for food. If you are a meat eater, this may change the way you think about food. But if you are a true animal lover, the change will be for the best. My daughter and I went vegetarian last year after watching this. If you have the fortitude to see what I am talking about, go to peta.org and click on the meet your meat link. IT IS HIGHLY DISTURBING AND SHOULD NOT BE VIEWED BY YOUNG CHILDREN
