My wife is Pinoy and soon to arrive in the usa...we always ate out and aside from Isda I really dont know what she likes. I would like to exspress intrest in some of her native foods if the ingrediants are available here. I would also like to be able to request something I think i might like. I know she would get a kick out of me asking her for her traditional food. salamat !

I found some spicy canned ground beef with chili peppers by chance at Pick And Save/MacFrugal's/Big Lots a few years ago. Since then I have not had any luck finding such a thing anywhere, even in hispanic supermarkets. Ever heard of such a thing? Where have you seen it? What is the brand? Can I get some mail-order?

My mom is allergic to fish of any kind ,and I would like to make some thai foods. Unfortunately, most use Nam Plah, or fish sauce.
I know it's a major flavor, but is there ANY substitute that will not kill my mom(which would be bad)?
thank you!

My husband and I love Ethiopian food, we go out to eat at our favorite restauraunt all the time. He loves the way the veggies are made and I wanted to make them at home - does anyone know of a good cookbook I could pick up that makes it simple? Also, does anyone know if there is any special cooking equipment - i.e. pots/pans that you need?

My husband is Hungarian and I would like to learn how to make some Hungarian dishes for him.
Not Hungarian goulash. He doesn't like that.
But if anyone knows any other authentic Hungarian recipes they would like to share, please post it. If there's ingredients that are unfamiliar in the US, please suggest a close substitute.

I have been to Ireland and they call their breakfast (the fry up) an Irish Breakfast and it is usually just the same as we English call the English Breakfast, I have been to Scotland and had a Scotish break fast (not porridge with salt), which dam country invented this breakfast and why do the others try to pass it off as their own?? by the way the hash browns that are served all over England and Wales by JD whetherspoons are actually an american thing.

At every Indian restaurant I've ever visited, they always give the diners a small dish of some type of seed (I think it's cardamom.) at the end of the meal. They taste wonderful when chewed, but the skins/husks of the seeds are very chewy and tough. My question is--are you supposed to chew them up and swallow them, or just chew them to get the flavor, then spit the seeds out?

I developed a taste for sushi and lately I have been eating more raw sashimi than the rolls. I eat it about once a week and I feel like I should stop because I think sooner or later it's going to catch up with me. Plus, I am concerned about the mercury levels. Should I give up my sushi addiction?
