So, my sister's husband will be home in like 8 days for a 2 wk visit from his tour in Iraq. I wanted to make them a romantic dinner one nite... I have the menu but what I need now is extra ideas for all the "lil" stuff. This is what I have so far...

Low light and music.

Fresh cut flowers with some picked off to adorn the top of the table.

Glass decor bowls with floating candles.

Personalized fortune cookies, one per person.

Im sure there is a bunch of other stuff Im missing... so if any of you had ideas out there I would very much appreciate them.

I need some ideas on things I can serve for a small gathering I am having this weekend. The age group is 22-25 years old, and we are all ladies. I just wanted to throw a little party at my house just to get the girls together, but I don't know what I should serve. I don't want pizza and chips, I want to actually make some delicious appetizers, snacks, and maybe a few main dish items. All suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

I am throwing a surprise 40th birthday party for my husband and I am renting a banquet room at a hotel. I was reading the contract, and it mentions not being able to hang or tape any decorations to the wall or ceiling. If I do, there will be an additional charge. So, how can I still include decorations withing hanging them?

I'm hosting a "Kentucky de Mayo" (or "Cinco de Derby") party for the neighborhood, and I'm not sure what drinks to serve. I know that mint juleps are traditional for the Kentucky Derby and margaritas are typical for Cinco de Mayo. But for my party I'm expecting families with lots of kids, so I'd like to find recipes for great tasting non-alcoholic versions of those drinks.

A good friend invited my husband and I over for dinner with her family and I don't want to show up empty handed. Wine or beer is obviously out of the question, and so is a dish, because she's a way better cook than me (and I'm outta time).

I'm leaving college in a few weeks where we've been eating at the dining hall. I need to know if there are some basic staples and general spices that I can get once I move to my apartment to fill my pantry.
