Why do so many people talk about the movie here? People saw the movie and have accepted it as truth when there are other sources out there that can say it isn't happeneing as fast. When I researched it, I have found many sources saying that the temperature has only increased by 2 degrees withing the past 200 years. Doesn't seem like much of a deal. Cite sources please.

Rice is the primary food for 3 billion humans around the world. So what if genetic engineering could secure their rice supply?

Many Asian countries such as India often face flooding episodes that can destroy rice cultures.

A GM rice derived from Indian variety of rice is being developed to resist immersion in water. This rice could be grown in India and secure the food supply.

In your opinion, is it acceptable?

When warm water currents travels up to the North pole along the coast of Labrador where it dumps its warmth. It then travels back towards the equator. If the water going up to the pole is too warm, it can cause a warming trend at the poles and the glaciers to melt quickly. This would dump a lot of fresh water into the oceans. The fresh water acts like a dam and would then prevent the cold water current from being able to reach the depths of the ocean since fresh water is lighter then salt water. This would prevent the exchange of heat for cold at the poles. If I undrstand this right then anything above the fresh water dam would become colder and anything below the fresh water dam would become hotter. In other words, there would be an ice age at the poles downwards and at the equator would be desert like conditions upwards towards the edge of the dam. This would continnue until the excess fresh water can combine enough with the salt water enough to allow the exchange of currents again.

Global warming is not only one of the most threatening environmental problems, but one of the greatest challenges facing all of humanity. Danger signs are surfacing worldwide as temperatures increase (the last ten years have been the hottest years ever recorded causing glaciers and the polar ice caps to melt, coastal areas to flood and storms to become more severe). If left unchecked, global warming will continue to have a profound impact on our planet that will eventually cause catastrophic results. Fortunately, there are things each of us can do. Buildings -- including our homes -- are major contributors to greenhouse gases they’re responsible for up to 40% of all energy and resource use and approximately 1/3 of greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming.
