Gas used to be regarded as a waste product of oil production but is now generally a valuable product in its own right. Particularly in older reservoirs a lot of water can be produced along with oil and gas which has to be cleaned of entrained oil and disposed of (it usually contains a lot of dissolved salts) Gas may need to be purified to remove sulphur compounds, carbon dioxide and other impurities. When there is substantial amounts of sulphur this may be recovered in the form of elemental sulphur and this also happens in the refining of crude oil.

Not much waste comes from standerd oil wells, im from texas, and any thing that is pumped out that is waste is pumped right back where it came from. Standerd oil wells from my area pumped 5 gallons of water to each gallon of oil, every thing that can be pumped out of a well can be sold to somebody.
