I'm asking this, because it seems to me that the music industry nowadays focuses more on style over substance. If you don't believe me, let me bring up an episode of "American Idol" I once saw. In one episode, there was a guy who auditioned and was obviously very talented. Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson gave him a thumbs up, but Simon Cowell said that he didn't like the way the guy looked and that since the music industry is a business, you have to have an image to sell. Not only that, but I saw another episode in which Simon Cowell told another guy that he had a good voice, but that he needed to lose a few pounds! There have been PLENTY of great musicians who weren't exactly perfect tens! If MTV had been around during the 60s and 70s, we probably would have missed out on the likes of Neil Young, Roy Orbison, and Janis Joplin, just to name a few. Nowadays musicians with substance have been replaced by mannequins that all sound alike!

apparently its a crime to hav ur own style within a genre, so she made a pop album (cry), other artists change direction in their careers, sum make their career out of changing but faith experiments a bit and is shunned....i dont get it.

i'm from the uk were faith doesnt come much as she has a young family and i commend that, it seems that cuz she doesnt hav a DUI or caught partying 2 all hours shes not worth much. her example i think is one that needs to be commended more often.

reba mcentire said that the country music scene wont realise wot faith meant to it until she leaves. her music crossed genres, introducing new people to country every day.

some one please make sense of this for me????

I am 15 years old
I started classes at age 10 and had a really bad teacher
Stopped 2 years later
And now I want to go back?
The only problems are 1 - my teacher didn't teach me anything. She taught me music using the solfege method, I can't read music alphabetically AT ALL.
2 - I would like to be a really good pianist, not just "good enough" or "for fun" but extremely good.
It sounds impossible and is really depressing me. I feel like a failure. >_<

Recently, i've noticed that when i play my clarinet it squeaks. My music teacher suggested that either theres something wrong with my reed or im not covering the holes properly but my reed is fine and i am covering the holes properly. I don't think theres anything wrong with the actual clarinet itself. Could the strength of my reed be a problem? I've been playing for 4 yrs and i use a vandoren 2 1/2. Do i need a stronger one?

I'm a QUEEN fan. A HUGE Queen fan, but they have some remixes of some very good songs and they just make me crazy! One is "We Will Rock You" with at least 7 remixes, none of which are any good and have nothing to do with the original song!
What is with the stupid RAP?!
Another one is "Dragon Attack"! Again with the stupid rap!
Then there is a remix of some of Freddie's solo stuff.
I'm sure the last thing he said before he died was, "My dears, I hope that someday they make remixes of some of my songs and make me sound like a stammering idiot!"
