Saucerful of Secrets
Length: Floyd is notorious for long songs. This one goes ove1so0 it's a pretty nice handful.
Members: Every member that was ever in the band as a "permanent member" worked on this album. Even if Syd had no direct influence in this song, it's a sure thing that Roger, Nick, and Rick still had a bit of inspiration from him.
"Floyd" sound: It's avante' garde and experimental. The pandemonium at the beginning is strange to most, but it melds into a soft, grooving melody. It's very beautiful and expressional.
Instrumental: Once again, a Floydian distinction. They were famous for instrumental tracks as well. Most bands produce mostly lyrical tracks, but they produced a lot of instrumentals, this one included.
Storyline: A must for an epic of this proportion. So it's a battle. The first half is setting up and going to war, the second is family coming on to the battle field to inspect the aftermath and weeping over their losses.
Split song: This actually comes as four different parts: Something Else, Syncopated Pandemonium, Storm Signal, and Celestial voices
Please, please consider adding this one! It is amazing; listen to it in Live in Pompeii!
