At the beginning of the year we started to develop what we're calling a "Character Education Portfolio". The intent is to get the kids thinking about themselves... how they handle situations, who they are, who they are becoming, who they want to be. So far we have included the following:
Baby pictures, current pics, pics of family and friends.
Resume.
Who am I now?
What's my ideal career?
How do I want my life "to look" in 5 years?
Music (we burned cds of favourite songs)
When I'm angry/happy/sad I... My body language looks like...
The best choice I ever made...
Favourite journal entries.
Hobby/Interest/Activity Inventory
Artwork (personal and favourites from others)
How does my music define me?
Other people see me as.... Really I am more like...
What do I do to make the world a better place?(home/school/community/country/world)


I may have missed a few... any other ideas? These portfolios are a favourite activity and are ABSOLUTELY beautiful.

I am a home schooling mom. I have already had to deal with opposition in our school district because I have decided to teach my children at home. I just wanted to know what the general feeling was in the teaching community.

Since I know the social life of my children might be the TOP reason most people state, please let us just skip that one in order to hear out some more thought out answers.

Many adults still think of teachers the same way they did when they were children. They still think a teacher's day starts and ends when the school day starts and ends. They forget what little pricks they were in class and forget that the teacher had to deal with thirty of them at a time.

Don't you think teachers should be paid more? They work soo many countless hours grading papers, projects and planning for the weeks ahead. With out their teaching children won't get an education. With out teachers we won't have the technology we have today. What do you think? I STRONGLY think they should have a raise.

Is there a loss of resolution when you give a power point presentation on an interactive white board? (compared to how it looks on a monitor screen)

I want to create a fun lesson plan that will teach my grade two students about "compound words." I wanted to start the lesson by introducing a poem or an enrichment short story that contains compound words. I have been searching for some but my efforts deemed fruitless. Do you know any websites where I could find these enrichment poems or short stories that contain compound words. Or, do u have any that you would like to share with me.
