Hello. I'm a singaporean working in China right now. I am also an active volunteer in community ptojects, especially targeting to make a differerence for children.

Many children in China does not have the luxury to study, most big towns and cities do have school for those who can afford. As China has a one child policy, every parent would try their best to send their child to school.

I have visited a rural school in Ning Xia, children as young as 6 or 7 have to walk for 2 hours to reach school, the lucky ones have broken bicycle. School teachers are youth graduates from the same village, with some older retired teachers.

Fundings are from the government but most of the cost comes from the local community.

To complete their studies, some children may have to ensure housechores are done before they are allowed to go to school due to proverty.

There are an increasing awareness of Chinese donating and sponsoring back to help the rural kids to go to school, but the process is very slow. If you can help please talk to Worldvision or CARE organisation in your country.

Bless!
