Maybe I'm jaded, but I think my MA in History makes me better qualified to teach History than some bozo who took "Grade Books and Bulletin Boards 101" while I was writing long papers and reading thousands of pages of History, but under the laws of virtually every State in the Union he has 100 job opportunities to my 1. Not that I couldn't go back and take gradebooks and bulletin boards, just that it seems like anyone with common sense could handle those tasks without a Degree, while a thorough understanding the actual content to be taught should have some sort of bearing, shouldn't it?

I have heard from co-workers today that some teachers got too close to the kids or was too "fun-loving". As a result, the class discipline was horrible, with children shouting at the teachers, running about, telling teachers to shut up, etc. Maybe the first few lessons are very important, how should I set the tone? How to get kids to like you yet respect you sincerely? When I was a child, I never really hated or mistreated any of my teachers!

The teachers give you a list of books, and in the lecture hours, they tell a class to form small groups, and talk about the subjects the course is about, among the groups. Then the teacher goes to her own room and comes 15 minutes before the 2 hour lesson is over and tells a couple of stories about her working experience in the 60`s

this is how finnish college-level education works these days. Some minor variations but basicly the same.

What do you think, is this a good and effective way to learn for profession?

My girlfriend is currently doing a PGCE for secondary education (her degree was in geography). She is now wanting to change to qualify to teach in a primary school - Can this be done? Could she convert half way through her secondary pgce?

(The reason she didn't go for the primary PGCE is that her degree was a 2(ii) and not a 2(i) as was needed to do the primary course.)

There are so many cases of teachers punishing kids too hard, being too rude...when we parents complain, our kids are singled out, exploited, given preferential treatment, less grades than the kids actually deserve...What's the solution to this? I am not saying all teachers are like this..some teachers are real gems..

Hello I'm an English teacher and this is my first year teaching at a junior college. I assigned my students a 10 page research paper on a conspiracy theory for their final project. I had my students tell me what their thesis was so I can approve it before they start writing it.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is does anybody know how to catch custom made research papers? I know there are many sites that offer this service, I just want to know if they really will make a non plagiarized research paper for a student who's willing to pay $20 per page.

For students who have done this in the past: have any of you got caught?

Thanks in advance.
