The teachers give you a list of books, and in the lecture hours, they tell a class to form small groups, and talk about the subjects the course is about, among the groups. Then the teacher goes to her own room and comes 15 minutes before the 2 hour lesson is over and tells a couple of stories about her working experience in the 60`s

this is how finnish college-level education works these days. Some minor variations but basicly the same.

What do you think, is this a good and effective way to learn for profession?

no it is not effective, nor does it teach the students about the subject matter very much. the teacher needs to lecture about the books if she assigns them. and last time I checked the teachers got paid to do their job, not tell old stories or use class time as her self-improvement workshop.

Your teacher has a mistaken idea of what group work in college is and is not. Group work has been shown to help students but it is supposed to be guided group work and study, with input. Teachers are encouraged to share their work experience , it is why they were hired, because they have that experience. It is not the only thing they are supposed to do. You are right, colleges are leaning toward group work because that is what they are told business wants, people with group dynamic skills. Your school should have some sort of teacher referral form and that is the proper way to change this.

Not at all...That is just laziness on the teachers part... I know when I was in college I hated to do the small group thing because only maybe one or two out of the whole 5 people would participate. It was a big waste of time... A lot of us would use that as nap time...

Nope, not when you pay boo coo bucks to go to college and professors get paid way more than a 2nd grade teacher who is shaping the minds of our young children!
