I am assuming you are wanting to know Maslow's hierarchy of needs. If so, then they are
Physiological needs- food, water
Safety needs- security
Love/Belonging needs- friendship, family
Esteem needs- self-esteem, confidence
Self-actualization- creativity, problem solving
To read more about Maslow's and his theory here is a website.

How would you meet these needs?
Physiological needs- make sure the child is eating at lunch. Most schools have a reduced lunch or even free lunch. Bring them a snack to have during the day.
Security needs- Make sure the classroom is a safe environment and bully free
Love/belonging- Love the child, Love all of your students
Self-esteem- Praise the students even if they don't get the answer right, praise them their effort
Self-actualization- encourage their creativity, allow them the opportunity to express their creativity.

Oh - what a question. I have been teaching for 10 years "professionally", but in other businesses, I have still taught. I believe that yes - the basic needs are always important - food, clothing, shelter- those are necessities that everyone needs in order to function - BUT, as I have learned throughout my year of teaching -there is an element that we all know - that is more important than almost any other - and that is the knowledge that - the child in that classroom is SPECIAL, EXTRA SPECIAL to that teacher - that teacher has so much love and outpouring of positive and loving spirit that the child can't do anything but grow and develop. That child goes home and is excited about the work, the teacher, the school - that child has a friend in that teacher that can sometimes stretch beyond that parents relationship. The basic need for every child to learn is to know that the person who is in charge of teaching him, loves him, cares about him, will correct him, (in love) and guide him toward an understanding and a position that he will learn to grab hold of the rail for himself and have enough faith to realize that it is strong and will support him - to know that even in the face of disappointment- he has support around him to bear him up. LOVE - to me, that's the most important need a child has to have in order to learn. They need to know their teacher cares about them and supports them - in good and in bad situations. Love - is all. Because Jesus loved us - in spite of our sin and decided to die for us - in spite of our sin, and asked us to love each other - in spite of our sin - just as He loved us. How can you treat a child any different. As a teacher - my first priority is to support, direct, care for, teach and direct my student - to help bridge the gap sometimes between the parent and the child - and to show them that as a teacher - I am your friend - never your enemy.

making the children feel wanted, making them feel loved, making them feel they can come to you or any other adult in the adminastration when they're troubled, letting them know just being there makes them a Better Person, but support is a "must" for a CHILD TO GROW! i work with middle school children 5 day's a week. they are great kids just wanting to feel they're somebody

Basic needs: food, shelter, and clothing. Not always in a teacher's control.
If these are met, then in a classroom a student at any age needs to feel they are a part of the whole, needs to feel welcome, appreciated, valued, and respected. A student needs to feel motivated, but not pushed aggressively; a student needs to feel successful, but not with empty praise; a student needs to feel they contribute to the group (in different ways).

you must meet their physical needs first like food, water, nutrition, interaction, and stimulation of their senses or they will die or suffer mental dmg. those are the most basic needs.
