Do you think that tenure promotes lazieness, or rewards teachers and professors for a good job, or something else? I am looking foward to hearing from you.

I am a highschool senior at a private school and have a good grasp on most math up to about calculus. I work at the local library and a lady I know said something about her son getting tutored...I told her that I would tutor him for free.

Then she asked me to tutor her daughter in algebra and I said I would do it for free but she insists on paying me. I told her I could tutor her for 2 hours after work once a week or so. We agreed on that and she still insisted that I come up with a per hour figure and, never needing a tutor myself, I have no idea how much to ask.

I like to hear from teachers who have experienced both US and other countries students. I know the teachers our district recruited from India and the Philippines are having hard times adjusting to the US student behaviors. I personally have had little behavior problems from my ESL students that just came to the US from Mexico, China, Africa, etc. compared to the numerous problems I've had with the US students (or even foreign student have have been here a while). I'm trying to figure out if or why there is a difference in behaviors?

For the past few weeks I've been nice to my teacher and she's been nice to me. I haven't done anything to make her mad or anything, now she's starting to be mean to me and ignore me. I don't think that's right because I'm her assistant.

I'm asking this on behalf of someone who is over 60 and currently teaching ESL in China. My question is - where can someone that age go in the world to teach English? The problem seems to be common amongst people. She can't retire back to the Western country she's from but wherever she looks at ESL positions they stipulate age restrictions like "must be under 30" or "must be under 40". Although I'm only in my early thirties, it irritates me that there is a belief that you're too old to teach. Does anyone who is a 60+ ESL teacher or knows one have any suggestions about which countries have the least problem with age limits? Advice?!

I am a probationer teacher in Scotland and would like to know if we get paid December's wage mid December, rather than at the end of the month as usual. I am aware that this happens in other organisations and businesses.

I've just been on a course about learning styles and accelerated learning, they reckon brain breaks work - where the kids do something more physical before/during work to stimulate the brain. Have you used them? do they work? and if so are there any particular brain breaks which the children like and which work?! My class are 10 and 11 years old.
