I think that there is more going on in the child's life than just not wanting to do his work. There is something that is keeping him/her from being motivated to work. So, I guess the big question is...How do you motivate them? I have been trying all year to answer that question.

Not much.
I have no problem with the HELP part of "homework help", but I will not write a 10 page paper for 10 points. If they can actually get someone to do that, I guess they do have a special talent!

I absolutely indulge. The point is to get them interested. If everyone would lend them a hand, without being judgmental, young people would see the point. I mean, at least, they are obliged to read each answer to chose the most suitable to their needs. A teacher's calling is to pave the way, not fill it up with unnecessary bla, bla, bla...

Its a good way of finding information that they may not otherwise know exists, but they most certainly should not expect someone to do all the work for them!

I think they are very trusting (albeit desperate) souls who do not believe that anyone would be mean enough to give them an incorrect answer - You've heard the saying, "Give them enough rope, and they will hang themselves" - I think it applies here!

I think they're using the resources available, but need to recognize that just because someone tells them something on this site doesn't mean that person is correct.
