I would love to work abroad teaching English as a foreign language;however the amount of information on the web is confusing! There are many varied types, I would like to do an in-depth course and gain a recognised qualification although, I am not sure which type of course to take - I found a good website cactustefl.com that helps to differentiate between all the courses but any more info would be great! I would love to hear from anyone who is currently teaching abroad or has done in the past. I would love some tips and info of good courses and where to study. (I dont want to do an online course) Thanks v.much!

Does anyone know of a good course that would give me the qulifications needed? There seems to be loads on the internet but I don't know if they're genuine?

"Deserves to be the modern classic on mind-altering drugs and hallucinogens." In this modern classic that television is emotionally equivalent to electronic heroin: "The nearest analogy to the addictive power of television and the transformation of values that is wrought in the life of the heavy user is probably heroin. Heroin flattens the image; with heroin, things are neither hot nor cold; the junkie looks out at the world certain that what ever it is, it does not matter. The illusion of knowing and of control that heroin engenders is analogous to the unconscious assumption of the television consumer that what is seen is 'real' somewhere in the world. In fact, what is seen are the cosmetically enhanced surfaces of products. Television, while chemically non-invasive, nevertheless is every bit as addicting and physiologically damaging as any other drug.

What are your experiences? I have heard too many times that teachers have their hands tied, are intimidated by their administrators, to be in meetings and lie and make sure children dont' get help in special ed.
Lots of times, the teachers don't even know WHY they are made to do this. My childs teacher has been thru hell having to do this at our school.

In an effort to incorporate "non-printed texts," I would like to incorporate a "world" movie in my English II Honors high school class (10th grade). I'm thinking Hotel Rwanda, as Asia and Europe are already represented with selected readings (Nectar in a Sieve, Night, Medea, Oedipus, & Cyrano--their selections).

Other possibilities: Osama, Il Postino, The Gods Must Be Crazy, and Mar Adentro.

It turns out both Monsoon Wedding, LIke Water for Chocolate, and The Motorcycle Diaries are rated R, and there's NO way I could get away with that.

I've also had Whale Rider and Rabbit-Proof Fence from Australia recommended, though I'm not familiar.

I want to choose ONE to focus on that will open their minds AND appeal to these bright youngsters. Tell me which you think would be best or suggest another (as long as it's G, PG, or PG-13).

I am a Secondary Spanish Education major and for one of my classes, I am supposed to come up with ideas for the first week of class. It's been 4 years since I have been in a high school Spanish classroom and I don't remember what we did the first week of class. Do you have any ideas, since the students (in general) will not have any knowledge of the language yet?

Music teachers- Is anyone out there applying Gordon's MLT to their classes and performing groups? What has been your experience?

I find myself, as a jazzer and band director, drawn to it intuitively, but it is such a leap from the standard band methods that I need some help bridging the gap for me and my colleagues. I'd love some success stories and transition advice.

I am a teacher, have been for a decade. There is an ever increasing plague in the classroom-- the A-seeking student that believes that anything less than an A is a failure. Better yet, or actually even worse, too often they believe that they deserve an A just by showing up. Why is this change so invasive?
