I would like to do a TEFL course so that I can teach English abroad. I don't really want to go to university and would like to do maybe a 4 week course? Does anyone know of a good course that would give me the qulifications needed? There seems to be loads on the internet but I don't know if they're genuine?

Depending on where you want to teach you may not even need any certification. I've lived in China for the past two years and there are tons of places that just want someone, anyone who can speak English. I took a weekend ESL course. That, with the fact that I had a college degree qualified me to teach in the college where I was studying Chinese. I didn't teach, but I really turn down offers to teach many times. If you're interested in teaching in China, I could possibly connect you with some opportunities.

Hi, I have just posted a question almost the same as yours! I have found a good website www.cactustefl.com - helps to differentiate between the huge amount of courses available. I think it is best if you speak to someone who has done a similar course. check that website out though as I found it pretty helpful. It all depends how much you want to get into it - there are courses that are pretty basic that anyone could join, and then there are courses which you have to be accepted onto and they are apparently pretty hard. good luck!

you don't need the TEFL to teach English abroad. my wife and i have been teaching small groups in our home in Mexico for 8 years. she teaches basic students grammar and basic conversation, i teach conversation to higher level students. we make a nice peso. if we were to teach in schools, we would make only a fraction of what we make now. we don't have any form of certification.
