because some schools believe that it will improve their work, and it will hold back some voilence between students acting out becuase of their appeal, however, some suggest that it is a bad thing, because children mdo better work when they are Comfertable, and uniforms may cause a bigger issue because kids might be focuoused on what they are wearing, and how they can "spice" it up to look individual, thus getting them into detention, ect. so some schools are going with the suggestion, and others are not, i am NOT for them, i'm 13 and i actually do do better when i'm comfertable, for example, i had my 2 shirts on, and it just made me feel contained, and the whole timje i was trying to loosen up the shirts, and i was'nt focused on my work, but i carfully go through these things before i go to school now, because i failed that test lol

1. In schools with gang problems, wearing uniforms helps to eliminate some of the violence because gang members can't wear their colors or symbols. That's one reason.
2. The uniforms are actually more versatile than you see in other countries with two or three style shirts and a choice of slacks or skirts for the girls.
3. Parents save money because their kids don't have to have 20 outfits for school. Even higher income parents would rather not spend money where they don't have to.
4. The children look more presentable. There's no sagging, no bare midriffs, and no halter tops. The uniforms are comfortable, but not distracting.
5. Kids are not being robbed by other kids for those designer label jeans or sneakers. If you think that really isn't a problem, Reader's Digest had a story last year about a kid who was killed for his Adidas.
When the kids get home, they change out of their uniforms into clothing of their choice and that's when they express their individuality. Saves their school clothes for school.

There are several reasons behind the school uniform philosophy. 1. So the children will feel part of something 2. It helps children respond and think as a student. {For example going to the doctors many doctors have the nurse ask the patient to take off all their clothes and put on a gown- even when the patient is there for an infected toe- so it establishes who is the doctor and who is the patient- it is weird pyscology but it works}
3. Settles a lot of problems with rich children vs. poor children. Kids can not come to school dressed in the latest trends with brands creating social cliques based on who is wearing what.

This is so all the kids are wearing the same clothes and no-one is different. Kids can be quite nasty to each other about what 'make' (Nike Adidas etc) they wear. I have never known a secondary school not having to wear a uniform? Maybe it's different in America to England.

This is just to identify the kids to which school they belong to. As the kids cannot tall axactly where they live, which school etc, they were made to wear the uniform with an identity tag which describes everything about the kid.
Useful for the class teacher also as well as the public.

Uniforms should be mandatory for ALL schools. Too much emphasis is put on "WHAT I'M WEARING AND YOU"RE NOT!!(or)YOU CAN'T". A rich family with a dumb kid gets more respect than a poor family with an intelligent kid because they dress better??? HELP!!!!!

Supposedly they are less distracting and more affordable. My daughter wore one in kindergarten and first grade and it certainly took some of the hassle out of what to wear in the morning. However, we recently moved to a school that doesn't have them and she loves it. She is able to show a lot more creativity and imagination in what she wears, and we make it affordable by hitting consignment shops.

So the kids don't have to compete with who is wearing what and so-on. This way, the kids have one less thing to worry about as well as the parents.
