My school offers this thingie where certain Juniors and Seniors are allowed to take some classes in a community college. I am one of those people... and I am trying to figure out whether or not I want to do this. How am I supposed to have the whole high school experience if I load myself with unnecessary work?

I'm especially surprised by how quick so many SF Bay Area private schools and parents are today to hold back and dismiss age eligible kids as not ready for Kindergarten just because their 5th birthday falls later in the year (June-November). It seems more a tactic for schools to weed out candidates and for parents to ensure their kid excels (in sports, class, etc.). Is it really in the best interest of the child especially for those kids so eager to learn and experience new things, and seemingly ready in many other ways? If children aren't progressively challenged and inspired in these critical early years, their interest in learning in the long run could detrementally be impacted.

Ok I have 2 questions. First of all, should I join the Academic Decathalon team next year in my junior year? I want to because I have done any extracurricular activities nor joined any clubs at school. However I'm taking a lot of difficult classes next year including AP U.S. History and AP Calculus. I'm already doing poorly in Math Analysis right now so I have a lot to study for Calculus next year. On the plus side, AcaDeca's theme for next year is the Civil War, I'd be getting a lot of practice for AP U.S. History. However, I've been told that AP Calculus is very time comsuming.

SO I thought about taking AcaDeca in my senior year... but don't you have to send your applications to the colleges in by November of your senior year? If I join the Academic Decathalon then, will it be too late?

So I have two questions: Should I join the Academic Decathalon next year or wait until my senior year of high school? Do the classes you take in your senior year count?

Thanks

We have been "told" that our school (K-5 grades) will be implementing a new lunch/recess schedule next year. This is coming from our Health Dept. through our Wellness grant right to our superintendent. In all the years I have taught (32), the children eat lunch and go directly outside for recess. Next year we will have to switch that schedule - now they will go out to recess and come directly in to eat lunch. We were given alot of "literature" to read about it but I would like to hear directly from some school systems and/or parents. What advantages do you see from this schedule? Disadvantages? How did you set up your lunch schedule? We have 18 classes with one cafeteria suitable for holding 6 classes but that's really too many. Hoping to hear from schools in various parts of the country! I am also on the committee to set this up, so looking for suggestions. Thank you!

We have a horrible principal at our school. 90% of the staff can't stand her, the PTA hate her, as do many other parents. She likes to make decisions about things that are a whole school matter on her own. She is always overriding everything our IC or PTA is trying to do. She starts new programs without having enough information on them, and without giving the proper support. She is know by other principals as, "the ghetto principal" and it's embarrassing. We don't know how to get rid of her. She says that no matter what we do, she' s not leaving! HELP!
