What elective should I take for my freshman year?

1) Band.
2) Spanish 1.
3) French 1.
4) Mandarin.
5) Ceramics.
6) Photography.

Mmm. I want to take Mandarin. I'm chinese however I can only speak Cantonese. Will it look good on my college application? (I'm thinking ahead here)
Well, My cousin said that colleges won't accept me, because they would expect that, that is my homeland language.

Depending on your college major and where and what you intend to practice when you graduate will make a difference.

If you are a business major-Mandarin
If you are a psychology major - Spanish
If you are a Literature major- French

Either way take a language freshman year

Good Luck

Spanish.. easy language to learn.. 2nd most popular language in the United States next to English.

Band.. i was in it my freshman year, and it was a fun experience!! i loved it!!! you should definitely consider it! but if you are very lazy i would not take band because it requires effort if you're talking about marching band. but if it's just a band class where you play music indoors all day then that would be fun for you!

Take mandarin mainly because that is really what you want to take, and it will count when you go to college.
US relationship with China is sooooo important in future economics in US.
I'm sure every large company will need interpreters and high level management that can speak the language.
Excellent choice.

yeah, your cousin is right. I think you should take Spanish or French. Spanish of course, is much easier, and French is way harder. Though Spanish will be more useful to you...Though if you're planning to go to college, a year or two of spanish/french is good.

Electives are suppposed to be fun! No one looks at your electives freshman year, so take what you want. Next year start adding stuff for your aplication. Just get comfortable this time around.
