I recently read an article on 'Depression in children'. These days children are under a lot of pressure from both parents and teachers to perform well in all areas. For those who are slow in learning it can be quite hard and with our busy lives we often don't have time to talk it out with our kids to understand what they are going through. In some cases unstable family situations affect children quite badly. Do you think it would help having a counsellor in schools to whom children can talk to?

The USA imports people trained in the hard sciences and mathematics because there is a short supply of that kind of person coming from American schools. First there is mathematics which is necessary to communicate physics. And physics establishes the fundementals of chemistry. Why don't young Americans step forward and do the work? Political science, psychology, computer science are fine but will someone explain why our young people shy away from learning the fundemental knowledge of the modern world? Why?

Many secondary schools in England have siblings as their top admissions criteria. How important is it that siblings attend the same school? Or is it more important that children are with their friends?

Every year, they come up a different speech problem that they want to work on for the year. The next year, he always makes adequate progress in that area but they always "discover" a new speech problem a couple of weeks before his yearly review. Now, they claim he can't say "v" words although he says them perfectly fine at home and they've never noticed it in 4 years of speech therapy. Also, he supposedly has a problem with his "s" cluster words. He says them fine for me until I get out his speech homework. He starts to say them right, then "corrects" himself and it changes to a "lateral distortion lisp". He claims that is how his speech therapist is teaching him.
My mother has a theory that once they have you in special ed, they try to keep you there because of the additional funding they receive. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Right now I am running for the position of ASB president, but the girl I am running against is way more popular and outspoken than I am.

On my part, I have never been a popular or very outspoken person, but as my years in leadership have taught me, you don't need a loud voice to be heard.

Yea yea, I am the stereotypical high school asian girl, with the glasses, shyness and AP classes an whatnot, BUt contrary to what others may think, runing for this position isn't for my transcript; I really do think I can make a difference.

Help me out. As person who doesn't stand out in a crowd, what do you think i should do to win this thing?

I'm a junior in high school, but I've never had a boyfriend, first kiss, etc. Don't laugh...

Next year I'll be going to prom and I really want to go. I'm upset that I probably won't have a date. Is it really essential to have one? I haven't heard of a person not going without a date.

Please don't be rude when replying. Thanks for the help!
