It depends on the professor and your ability to study or to impress your prof. But in technical terms it should be unexcused days. But sometimes professors tell you on the first day of class whether only unexcused or whatever reason it is, how many days you get to be absent. Like my business class prof. said, "I'll allow only 7 days to be absent".

But I'd say, please dont miss any class, because it affects your study so damn badly. Soo,, reserve those days you may absent for something very important.
I'd rather sleep only 2 hours at night, but wont miss my class which is 7:55am, because I know how important it is to maintain presence in class to do good in your study.

It's 20 days total. Our school is 8 a semester. If you have a medical leave or something, that's different. But, if it's your mom calling you in because you have the flu or unexcused absences, both of those count toward the 20. In order for it not to count, you need a doctor's note. Your grade will suffer and you could be held back.

Most schools limit absences. For many districts 20 excused days would be considered overly-generous. Unexcused absences are never ok. If you mean skipping with no parent note, 20 is deplorable and might well lead to suspension in some districts. After a given number of absences (excused or unexcused) a medical note from your doctor will be required to miss any more. . Check with your own school for clarification of their policy. Only they can really answer your quesion.

In some schools, privileges are taken away--- such as being able to take part in graduation ceremonies, etc. Most teachers make it extremely hard for someone with so many unexcused absences to pass the course. At my school (I am a high school teacher) the District Attorney and the truancy board prosecutes students (and their parents) for students that are habitually truant. The number that signifies a "truant" is a student that has more than 3 unexcused absence in a grading period. One way to avoid the murky waters is to just get your butt to class! J/K... Good Luck.

At my high school it is ten of ANY absence per semester unless accompanied by a doctor's note or proof of a legal proceeding. If you hit ten in one semester, you automatically fail the semester and have to re-take it later.
