I recently read an article on 'Depression in children'. These days children are under a lot of pressure from both parents and teachers to perform well in all areas. For those who are slow in learning it can be quite hard and with our busy lives we often don't have time to talk it out with our kids to understand what they are going through. In some cases unstable family situations affect children quite badly. Do you think it would help having a counsellor in schools to whom children can talk to?

yes, depression among children is quite a common phenomenon. only we dont take it as important. but we need to change our mindset now. in fact depression among children is more dangerous than in adults. depression eats up the childhood among them. if it is a teenager, he may start behaving badly or may resort to drugs, etc. A counsellor can work effectively to take the child or teenager from the depression. it is not always that a professional counsellor is required. even parents or teachers can become one. but skill is very important here.
