i'm having trouble controlling a student that affects other students' behavior - like a domino effect. i can't touch him (to carry) when he refuses to have a time out. what are other strategies that i can do to help him decrease misbehaviors? and i AM firm, it's just that he knows i can't touch him. is "ignoring" him okay?, what are other suggestions i can do?

i'm a student teacher and the class i'm placed in just figured out that i'm not as strong as my master teacher. when i say strong, i mean authority wise. the students know that i can't carry them up when they refuse to go to the time out area (like what my master teacher does at times)... so i end up cancelling the "time out" because all i can do i tell them. i say it in a firm voice but all i get is that "and what are you going to do?" look. what can i do? i tried talking to the student outside of class but the behavior still persists. my master teacher has talked to him, but when my master teacher is gone, he starts his misbehavior. i tried giving him extra attention, but it doesn't work. i've also tried "ignoring" him with his acknowledgement but that doesn't work either. when i "ignored" him, he obviously wasn't happy about it because he started befriending me. so i talked to him after and justified my actions and the next thing i know, he's back to his misbehavior!

I am looking for a great private school (welcoming, caring, non-discriminating, non-racist, concerned about education and learning not money and politics) in Northeast Philadelphia near Roosevelt Blvd. and I-95. Must have Kindergarten. Does anyone have any suggestions?

A friend of mine (name disclosed) is currently a junior ranked 531 out of 688 students. He is taking AP Bio and is failing that class and wants to drop it but too bad he can't add a class so he might take a study hall. He' sa good student and works hard but can't get his grades up. Last year he brought his grades from Cs and Ds to Bs and some Cs (he said he had a bad teacher and I dont blame him). He is an Eagle scout and particpated in football and is in track as of now. He asked me the other day wheter he has a good chance of getting into Texas A&M University in college station (They have a 70% acceptance rate). I told him i'll ask people so I post this queston to you Plz help my friend out 9I just give him moral support, can you give me some facts that might be to his advantage.)

thanks!

The teachers never force any student to study, but only give them motivation to learn about themselves and what they are interested in.

My 4.5 year old daughter is doing the same things in her pre-school that my nephew is doing in Kindergarten. Today, I went to the website of her soon-to-be kindergarten and they're also doing the same school work. She got every single answer right on her ASQ Exam (which isn't very in depth, it focuses more on motor skills than anything else). I was just wondering if there are any teachers or parents with Gifted children who can give me some insight as to whether my daughter is normal, or if she is going to be bored next year. How do I get her tested?? Where do I go? I was thinking of calling her future elementary school, but if she isn't indeed gifted, I wouldn't want to be "the parent who thinks their child is perfect". Thanks!
