Hi, I'm 14 live in Canada, and me and my Dad both agree we want me to homeschool. So, were both a little confused about how to go about this, so could anyone find some sort of program or homeschooling guide or something like that to help us get started? Please remember I do live in Canada so make sure its supported, and I am half way through Grade 9 at a public school allready. Thanks.

I just really dont get it, and I know you homeschool parents may get sensitive with my question, but I would just like to know. I think that you get more social skills being in a public or even a private school. You need those skills to survive in the real world, and I dont understand how staying at home all day with your mom or dad learning stuff helps with you social skills.

Abeka offers cursive teaching in kindergarten. I thought it was way to soon, seeing how she just learning to write manuscript. I thought after 1st grade if she has the manuscript down I would start teaching cursive writing in 2nd grade. I've heard many say that public schools don't teach it until 3rd grade. When did you start teaching your homeschooler cursive writing?

I keep getting confused with those two. I think "say" is present form and past tense is "said" So if that's true, do you still need to add "s" to "saids" to mean 1st person singular past tense?

My completely irrational parents refuse to consider the idea, but can't give an argument that I haven't countered. I've given them websites to look at--I don't think they bothered--and on those websites were answers to all of their (stated) concerns. If you've had success with unschooling, please tell me so I can tell them.

Im homeschooled.
10th Grade.

When I started being homeschooled back in 6th grade I had alot of friends. Alot of the friends I went to school with started being homeschooled at the same time I did. But When 9th grade rolled around last september like all of them went to a high school. So this past 2 years I have seem them like once every what? 4 months or something. So I want to make new friends. I know I would get lots of new friends if I joined the homeschool basketball team but im not very athletic. I have ashma but its a lot better now. So could some homeshooling teenagers (or were homeschooled) tell me there experiences or just some advice from everybody?

"If you're teaching yourself, you already know it."

I don't understand.

I'm teaching myself algebra because I'm reading my algebra book and doing the lessons.

Maybe it has something to do with how you interpret learning and teaching? If you think of learning as more of having facts dropped in your head and teaching being the dropper I guess it might make some sense.

Im in grade 8, ussualy highly mature compared to other in my grade and older then myself. I cant concentrate in my school, class, learning enviroment whatever. I asked my mom if i had ADD she said no my Dr. said no. I do great on state tests but terrible on classroom tests.

I just think it would be easier for me and my parents if I could teach myself in an enviroment where I will pay attention and actually absorb an education.

So my question actually is can I only be homeschooled by a parent or can I do so myself? How would go about this? Im in WI if that helps any.

I have the following degrees

Bachelors of Science Physics,
B.S. Molecular Cell Biology

Undergrad designation- phi beta kappa and summa *** laude (highest honors)

Masters of Science Biochemistry
MS Biomedical Engineering

J.D. (law) order of coif (top 10 percent)

all from ucla (go bruins!)

I am planning to practice law as a solo (wish me luck!) But plan to sustain myself by tutoring.

I have been tutoring for 7 years on SAT and almost any science/math subject you can think of and I love what I do more than anything and think im pretty good at it.

I have been charging for my private inhome 1 on 1 tutoring 35-45 an hour just after undergrad. But now with all these other degrees besides the bachelors, I want to charge more. Companies that I have worked for charge the clients much much more for my services and they get willing customers.

What do u think I am worth? How much would you pay? I understand that price is individually and locally sensitive.

I started homeschooling my 1st grader about 6 months ago. We go on field trips and read many books. I have an elcectic curriculum that is easy to follow but I just cannot get my son to pay attention to me when we sit down together to "learn." When we start he says it is boring & he is not reading enough on his own that I can just give him assignments so I really have to sit and teach him. What can I do to help him get excited about learning? If we go to the zoo I will try to teach him about the animals, we read whatever we find but by the time we get home and report to Dad what we have learned for the day he always says he can't remember or just looks clueless. Is this normal?

I would like to home school my own children, and invite others to attend as well. What are the requirements for doing this (any special licenses, etc.), and what steps should I take to get the ball rolling? Where do I get the supplies to begin?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

There have been several answers from public school teachers who say the kids who have been homeschooled, then enrolled in public school are all behind in their studies. Isn't it possible that these are the kids whose parents figured out after a year or two that they couldn't do this and decided it would be better for the child if they enrolled him or her in public school? Isn't is possible (even likely) that the homeschooled kids they DON'T see are homeschooling successfully?

I have seen the Texas Home School Coalition Association website so that I could get an idea for a withdrawal letter to the principal. On this site it says to send a copy of the withdrawal letter to them also or to call them if there are any problems . Do I need to be a paid member with this Texas Home School Coalition, do I have to send them a copy of the withdrawal letter, or is this only if Im a member of this? This will be my first time homeschooling my oldest son ( with Aspergers Syndrome) and I am just trying to figure out everything I need to do to take him out of school.Thank you !
