Hi, I'm 14 live in Canada, and me and my Dad both agree we want me to homeschool. So, were both a little confused about how to go about this, so could anyone find some sort of program or homeschooling guide or something like that to help us get started? Please remember I do live in Canada so make sure its supported, and I am half way through Grade 9 at a public school allready. Thanks.

Each province has its own laws about homeschooling. Check here http://www.flora.org/homeschool-ca/ for more information. Also, try to find a homeschool support group at the provincial or local level--they will be able to give you all the ins and outs of homeschooling there.

If you are in Alberta, email me and I can help you out even further.

i homeschool my boys who are in 9th and 11th grade. i highly recommend American School in Lansing, ILL. (just type that into any search engine and youll get the web site) i pay 55/mo per child for a 4 yr program. they take college prep courses so some of their classes will transfer as college credit. but you can choose if you want to do that program or just the regular high school diploma program. they cost the same. they send the whole curriculum so you dont have to wonder if you are taking what you need for your grade level. textbooks, workbooks and exams for each class is included in the tuition. you send in the exams and make your own schedule. they will give you a transcript when you graduate along with your diploma. you really want a transcript because its helpful when you graduate and go to secondary schooling. they are helpful and the cousres are awesome. my boys are getting WAY more out of this than they did in public school. just be sure to put yourself on a schedule and stay firm with it. we have school mon-fri from 8-2 unless we finish early (which doesnt happen often when youre teaching two different grade levels lol)...the school has been around for 125 yrs and is fully accredited. good luck and check it out!

Online research will be a godsend to you. Try to find a homeschooling group that can answer your questions and provide support (I can't help you much with that I live in N.Carolina).

Some general advice:
Stay friendly with the school district. They can provide you with resources as far as standardized testing and school sports go.

See if there's an acredation organization for homeschoolers in your area. They set standards for getting High School credits and a diploma instead of a GED.

Check with you community colleges and see if you can get into any of their classes. Then you can get high school credit AND college credit.

Check with the school district. There may be some hoops you have to jump through. Expect to some resistance to the idea.

Good luck!

Good evening,
I'm a mom of 3 and have homeschooled various high school courses using globalstudentnetwork.com with the cooperation of my children's local school (in this way they were able to take classes of interest at school and participate in athletics or other extracurriculars - including prom and graduation). This is a very good PACE (modules are completed at your own learning pace) program. A local school can elect to grade schoolwork and or exams or your parents can allow globalstudentnetwork.com to certify all work and issue a diploma. Most universities also have pace programs (some with various degrees of "virtual" class interaction) and can be completed as stand alone or "filler" programs for those who have a deficit in credits that they need to make up quickly or want to take advanced subjects or subjects not offered at their school. Check your school district as they may already have a list of pre-approved programs and or no-fee programs that offer tuition and/or material assistance.
